The SaltWise Salicornia is an excellent product not only for people like me who need to reduce their sodium but also because it provides important vitamins and trace minerals removed from regular table salt. Made from dehydrated salicornia, a fleshy stemmed sea plant, it comes in two colors with different nutritional breakdowns and flavor profiles. The white salt tastes milder than the green salt and can be used in cooking pretty much like table salt (I don't know how it performs in baking, however, and don't plan on trying). Even though the white salicornia has a bit less than 50% of the sodium present in table salt, I recommend using about 30% white salicornia and adjusting to taste. I find 30% plenty salty but I'm used to low sodium food. The green salicornia has even less sodium and contains more nutrients, especially iron. Its flavor is stronger and more distinctive. SaltWise, the manufacturer, describes its taste as umami with "a subtle and earthy flavor". While I agree with the adjective earthy I would use vegetal instead of subtle. For me it has worked well in savory dishes like mushroom sautes or bean soups. Again, it's best to start with a smaller amount. The product was shipped to me packaged carefully and it has an informative website that includes tips and recipes.

Only a small amount is needed to achieve a satisfactory salty taste, so, although it is a bit expensive, for the amount received, It is probably equivalent to four times the amount of sodium chloride, that would be needed for the same flavor, and it is much healthier! I'm very satisfied with the taste!

this is the first low salt substitute that I've tried that actually taste like salt. there is no chemical or after taste. its a perfect substitute for anyone wanting to reduce their sodium intake.

Great taste, quite similar to regular table salt, but with around half the sodium content. Texture is a bit finer, bit works well. Will definitely purchase again. Also, will be trying the green version of this salt.

The bag I had tasted very well, and was fully natural. Have to be more careful about using a bag during measurement, other than just that, great!

This product is a great compromise between picking real salt and a substitute

Its a little expensive -but it tastes great - just like real salt and half the sodium! Yum!
