I'm replacing an old A7 lite, which now has yellow streaks on the sides of the screen. It is also very slow.. Be aware that this is a middle-east variant that doesn't offer a Canadian country of origin. It seems that it doesn't matter. I added UAE as my country, and everything still works as usual.. I'm happy with the upgrade so far.
I just received it a couple of weeks ago so all is well to date. My primary reason for giving a 5★ rating is because I am so thankful to have found this size tablet. I hunted for a replacement for my old 8" ASUS so the 8.7" Galaxy fits my old case PLUS I have a much superior product with the Samsung. I like this size for traveling and playing games.
This budget tablet is perfect for my use case. I already have a powerful PC, a Google Pixel and a handful of handheld gaming consoles. So, all I needed was a device for browsing, streaming on the couch and sometimes redditing/reading on something bigger than my pixel. It may not be the snappiest but the Helio G99 chipset and the 4GB Ram is plenty powerful enough for those needs.
A unit made for the asian market, but not a problem at all for North Americans. Start by choosing the language of your choice (French in my case). Then choose South Africa for the country and the setup proceeds as usual. Once connected to the internet the system selects the time zone of the user. I downloaded apps from Google play and Samsung store. Very clear screen, speed more than sufficient for web browsing email, etc. I did not try fast moving video games. Excellent overall tablet.
We were looking for a smaller tablet that would just get the job done without breaking the bank. The Tab A9 seemed like the best deal for us and has turned out to be great. The Helio G99 CPU is one of the most capable CPU's in this price range and a bit higher which is really important for the longevity of the device. It responds quickly and handles typical apps very well. Battery capacity is good. WiFi connectivity is great. Setup was a breeze. The 8.7 inch screen is just right for us, not too big or too small and easy to hold for extended use which is important because my wife has arthritis in her hands. The screen is perfectly fine for anything we will ever do on it. The only downside is Samsung doss not market this model to North America. Ours is intended for the Middle East so we can not register it for a Canadian warranty. Every supplier selling these tablets is in the same boat. This was a non-issue during setup. I also don't think Samsung Canada will do repair service on it so if anything does wrong with it we are on our own with third party repair shops. We knew this before buying and are OK with it. It's an electronic device, so theoretically if it lasts a month it should be free of manufacturer defects. This has been our experience with all the phones, tablets and computers we've ever owned. It's a great machine for the price if you can handle the lack of a one year warranty.
Like anyone would expect this tablet works exactly as expected My only personal issues with it are how during the initial setup the tablet requires you to choose one of a small selection of regions, none of which are even on the western continent The UI is simple enough but at times feels like it is not scaled properly as the bottom three buttons are all on the bottom right side of the screen instead of across the entire bottom boarder, and some apps behave as if they are open in a 4:3 ratio like the settings app
To my great surprise, Walmart Canada sold a tablet localized for Asia-Pacific region. I had to pick an Australia as my home country because Canada was not on on a very short list of available countries. I feel as I bought a device from grey market, not from a major North American retailer.
Was too slow. Needs to be updated. Too many screens and questions to go through to set it up. Also, the version I got was some weird international version that was not in English when you turned it on, and then on the page where you had to select your region, the US wasn't listed. Only some South American countries. I returned it.
The display resolution is much worse than my ancient Galaxy Tab S2 - you'd think a much newer device made by the same manufacturer would be better, not worse. Also, the touch response when I play my Sudoku game is much worse - I often find myself having to tap 2 or 3 times to get it to register.
I never received the order it was delivered even to another state and Walmart still hasn't refunded my money. i ask to send me another one the first day I got the notice it was delivered and was told I was getting one shipping out within 2 days. I never got a tracking number or anything and when called back they didn't even have a record of someone talking to me on the chat. So still waiting on a fund? terrible customer service over an issue I had nothing to do with. what is up when your address is in Tenn and your order is delivered to Pennsylvania somewhere even a question of who end this problem is on.
