This doesn't work AT ALL! I tried to return it and they directed my husband to one of their local grocery markets but they refused it because, obviously, they are a grocery and don't deal with electronics. We still have it, unused and in the box, etc. Can't seem to figure out how to just exchange it for the same thing. Although, at this point, months later, I would consider a refund. Whatever; I'd just like a solution
This radio can pick up analog and digital signals. I was able to tune into jazz stations that an analog radio can not pick up. The sound is clear, clean and beautiful. I was able to lower the treble to what I want to hear. This radio is only 10.24"x5.35"x2.48"" and the sound can be heard through out my house. I will add some of the other features in the future, maybe visit another country's music station.
This HD radio has everything you need to rock out. From the Aux input to the station presets it has it all. It is easy to set your presets. The sound fills any residential size room. I live in a rural area and it still pulls in the HD channels great. When using battery power it will turn off the clock display when not in use so not to drain battery life. It of course stays on when plugged in. I like that it has the old school dial for tuning. This is much easier than holding a button for seemingly ever and passing up channels. Buy one you will like it.
The frequency sensitivity is great. The speakers, though small, really perform well, and that was a wonderful surprise...I had planned on using an external Bluetooth unit, but I found that I don't need to do that. I am quite pleased with this purchase.
Reception is ok outside, and in the house but if I want to listen inside my car, it loses all reception. I wanted to listen to HD radio in my car without having to dig into the wiring of my car.
This radio does exactly what I need. Our internet connection slowed down substantially with shelter-at-home sucking up the bandwidth. Streaming our local NPR station became next to impossible. So, I decided to try listening to broadcast again. In the past, that didn't work well at our house. We are situated below a ridge that blocks conventional FM signals, and the cheap boombox radios we had just could not pull in the station. So, I decided to try HD radio. Good decision! I get great reception now. The Sangean HD radio sounds great. It is also quite easy to use: I was turned on and tuned in within a couple minutes of opening the box. I get great reception even without lifting the antenna. The Sangean radio is exactly as it was described. I would personally have preferred if it had as rechargeable battery. But, it runs fine on the AC adapter or on C batteries. So, I'm a happy purchaser.
Nice HD radio. Easy to use and setup. The directions are pretty good. The built in speakers are so so, though I was able to improve the sound using the tone controls. I'm able to listen and set favorites of multiple stations only available in HD. No problems - all functions work well and the reception seems good. Highly ecommended.
I bought the Sangean HDR-16 as a bedside radio. It's reception and sound quality are superb. Unfortunately, the display is extremely bright in a dark room at night – and there's no control to let you dim the display. With all the other things you can adjust on the HDR-16 radio, you'd think Sangean would provide something so basic as a dimmer switch, but it doesn't. It's hard to sleep with that much light in my eyes and, with regret, I had to return the radio. (If you want a radio for the office, your kitchen, or while you're on the go, the bright display wouldn't be a problem, and this radio might be an excellent choice.)
This portable radio is packed with features, probably far more than the average user would expect. The only negative is that the radio sometimes doesn't tune to the same station accurately. Somtimes this causes the audio to sound muddy, at other times the same station is crystal clesr.
Everything works as described. In addition, Walmart's ad says there are 10 station preset buttons (5 AM and 5 FM). There are actually 20 presets and they can be all AM or all FM or any combination you like. Manually tune to a station and the radio will automatically look to see if there is an HD signal on that station's frequency. If it finds an HD signal, it will use the HD signal instead of the AM or FM signal. Then, you can push the tuner dial and the radio will look for the next HD signal on that station's frequency. The HD signals can also be made presets. The radio sounds fine for a portable radio. It has stronger reception than any radio in my house. I have found that many of the big AM stations here in Houston also have their broadcasts on the second or third HD channel on local FM stations. AM stations can be hard to get clearly indoors with all of the electrical hum and the signal loss through walls but they come in fine on the HD channel on an FM frequency. Just pull down the local radio station guide on the internet to find them. The radio uses 4 (not included) “C” size batteries. Who uses “C” size batteries anymore? The radio works fine on the included 120 VAC to 7.5 VDC power cord. Unfortunately, the power cord will not charge the batteries in the radio. The controls work fine once you get the hang of them. You will just have to read the included, detailed, paper instruction sheet.
