One of the few (only?) solutions for component HD soun (becoming very retro). If you connect it to a good, high outdoor antenna it can work pretty well. Haven't tried out the AM band, yet. Reception is in Los Angeles. Did need to connect the line out to a preamp to get that to work. After getting everything sorted out, it is pretty trouble free to use so far.
Great tuner. I really have no complaints with this. I am curious why volume controls only work when using headphones.
i received this product in good condition. i bought it because i wanted a reasonably priced tuner for my Marantz PM6007 amp. i"m not a huge fan of LCD displays because under certain light conditions they can be hard to see and possible screen burn in over time. i appreciate the black background with white letters, easy to see and an option to adjust screen display. i do wish the clock display was an optional on function to turn off if you dont want it. i dont keep this tuner on continuable standby, i power my system off with my surge protection outlet when not in use. operation has been good so far..
excellent as stand-alone using headphones or as a component tuner for an audio system. The FM sensitivity seems quite good, and the digital HD signal is reliably decoded. The AM sensitivity isn't that great.
I love this HD Radio tuner; it has GREAT reception using my old Radio Shack powered antenna. I used the TOSLINK out to my receiver and it sounds great. Love the remote too. The only downside for me was that there are only 10 FM presets, I could use more in my city.
First of all let me say that this is my first pro radio. I like it. It does what others have said so there's no use in repeating those things. But I would like to comment on radios, by saying they are dependent on how well the signal is received from the station. I live about forty miles away from the towers, and in the mountains, so the reception could be better. Fortunately, my favorite station has all five bars. I have listened to it a lot since the radio arrived at my door, some two weeks ago. It sounds better at night. Still, I have been disappointed by its lack of quality. I mean, of radio in general. It's nowhere near the quality of cd's. In particular, the cymbals and snare drum sound like white noise, with little separation in between the instruments. This happens even on HD Radio. Why isn't the sound better? I don't know. It's probably a narrow restricted band, due to market demand or the lack of it. In contrast, my digital tv comes in crystal clear, and very sharp. If I had known this about radio I may not have made this purchase. Anyway, the Sangean HDT 20 is a great radio. I only wish the quality of radio was better. I've noticed that the signal may drift after an hour or so, and that one way to bring this back into focus is to manually push the freg. button and then enter the call numbers of the station. This will make the station become clear once again. A nice little trick. Another trick was to raise the glass toslink off from the floor, where it lay near the electric wires and got some RF interference. Doing this has reduced the bass and evened out the sounds of the other instruments, making them sound more realistic. RF noise will cause ear fatigue. I hope to enjoy this radio for many years, but with less playing time than my CD's. If you are sitting on the fence, so to speak, I would recommend that you buy it from Virventures. They have the least expensive price on the net, and it came with free shipping, days earlier than Fedex had predicted. I do not work for either company. Enjoy!
Unaware of this product until last week and doing some research on it, purchasing it, then upon receiving it…found it a breeze to connect with my sound system. It's a welcoming addition in that I have a tuner capable of retrieving fm/am broadcast in analog or digital capacity with ease! I e never received reception so clearly. The display is as common as today's technology on sophisticated equipment costing so much more. I give it a thumbs up and if you're in the market for a tuner this is definitely worth it! I'm so very pleased.
I really enjoy this HD unit, raises the bar on my Onkyo receiver tuner. The HD 20, brings the audio forward and the sound stage is very musical especially playing classical music. In the Boston area this unit is hooked up to a dimple antenna that I have temporarily attached to side of house, most stations come in with 5 bars and immediately switch to HD, I had the Sony a while back and found it a disappointment. This is a nice improvement.
I noticed a few design issues I'll outline: Many FM frequencies don't work using digital outputs. (Yes, I should have read the blogs) These are the approximate frequencies: Below 91.5 MHz 93.1 to 97.5 99.9 to 103.1 Above 105.9 The workaround is to use the analog audio outputs. The remote has a very limited reception window of maybe 15 degrees, which is a bit annoying. Distance is not an issue. Also, the front display bleeds bright light out the sides and is annoying in a dark room or when walking up from an angle. It must be a very old display type. Fortunately, the remote has a multi level dimmer that can even turn the display off. It has a crazy amount of button, most devices utilize a menu driven system rather than a clutter of buttons. There is no FM Muting, so static is heard between stations. (not really an issue) I'm using an roof top antenna, so can't speak to reception issues with the included dipole antenna. When pressing the main dial button, you must hold the unit down or it slides backwards. Positive feedback: The headphone output has very high gain, so any headphone will work. When the unit is off has a large easy to read clock. The HD stations really do sound great, of course this will depend on the broadcast material. I rate this at 3 1/2 stars. It's an older produce, and I don't understand why they didn't address the issues outlined. With that said, it's the only HD radio other than those made for cars.
Remote did not work. Please send another remote.
