This radio is a beast! It'll pick up just about anything on the airwaves. The large 200mm am antenna is so good, in the evening I can listen from North Carolina and pick up Montreal, Boston, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Nashville, Atlanta, it even pulled in a station from Iowa! I am a huge fan of Sangean radio, they have no rival in radio. If you want the best, buy this.
Remember years ago when you'd grab your portable radio and head for the beach or park and just BLAST your favorite station? Just tune in & turn up the volume! So simple, no download menus,, no little cards or dongles, no need for earbuds or carting around little speakers.....just the music you wanted to hear! Well, here's that radio, only better! The sound from these two speakers is fantastic, whether you want classic Rock or classic Mozart or classic NPR talk, and maintain clarity at low or high volume. Sangean has even managed to finally write a user manual that actually makes sense & is easy to follow. We are about 30 to 60 miles from our favorite FM stations, and reception is very good. AM reception is terrible, but that's due to our location - our car radio loses AM reception as we turn off the highway onto our country road. Have had this for a week., got the Walmart extended warranty just in case. So happy to finally have a good portable radio again.
I live in a very rural area and have a hard time picking up radio stations, especially AM stations. I also wanted a radio to take out on the lake with me. Before this radio, I purchased and returned several other radios. They only picked up a couple FM stations and maybe one AM station. And out on the lake the reception was even worse. I decided to purchase the Sangean radio as a last resort. Most all of the reviews were good. Once I got it, I couldn't believe all of the stations, both AM and FM that I was able to pick up. And the stations came in strong and didn't fade, even out on the lake. The sound was better than I thought it would be from such small speakers. I would highly recommend this radio. That's why I gave it five stars.
Good home use radios are difficult to find. This radio is better than good, it's great! It has many easy to use features. On the Olympic Peninsula radio reception is difficult because of the mountains plus many preferred stations are distant. The combination of mountains and distance from stations make most radios useless. The Sangean tunes in weak signals without problem on both AM and FM bands. We tested the Sangean in an area where a local FM station is weak because of terrain and a close by Canadian station drowns out the local stations signal. Previously we tried several home radio receivers. It seemed only a quality car radio would work. The Sangean worked without any hint of an issue. At night the AM band is full of stations as far away as California. Tone is pretty good. Construction is solid. It will charge reusable batteries while connected to an AC outlet. This is an outstanding portable radio that sounds good enough to use anywhere. Although easy enough to order on line Walmart should consider putting this model on store shelves so customers may know it exists. Very good product!
I have owned & used two previous model PR-D5 Sangean radios for at least five years, and they are great. I recently bought this newer model PR-D15 third radio so that I have favorite music throughout my house or on the patio or back yard or garage - where ever I am sitting or working or exercising. I have a low-power FM-Transmitter for continuously sending my favorite music throughout my house, and I place one of the radios in the rooms where I spend most of my time. The radios are very powerful in picking up the signal, and have wonderful stereo sound quality. They are very solidly built & reliable. They are also easily portable, so I carry one to the garage or back patio or shed when I am working there. This newer PR-D15 model uses either re-chargeable or standard C-Cell batteries which is good; the two older PR-D5 models which I have been using for years don't re-charge batteries. But the radios don't seem to use much battery power as I don't believe I've ever needed to replaced the batteries in them, and they have always worked through any power outages or when I was using them unplugged. All-in-all, the very best radios which I have ever owned in my 78 years. The radio comes without the batteries, and if you do want to use rechargeable ones, rechargeable C-Cell batteries aren't too readily available locally in smaller communities, so plan ahead. The radio does tune & lock into radio stations very precisely, and gives great static-free listening.
My GE Super Radio had seen better days so I replaced it with the Sangean PR-D15. I like using the rechargeable batteries, the sound is good and it has a lot of cool features like the alarm, timer and channel presets.
We love this radio. it's the second one we bought. The first one lasted about six years,as it is now in the garage because the battery system failed to work, though it would still work when plugged in. We played it every night, and love the timer shut off feature. Good bass and treble adjustment with accurate station tuning. All in a great radio for the price. Bluetooth connectivity would be great but sadly lacking.
It is my kitchen radio which I listen to each morning while having breakfast. It has great reception and sound.
This is a decent radio IF your preferred stations are relatively strong signaled. I bought this as a gift for my mom but the tuner was unable to receive the station regardless of antenna position. Otherwise...a decent radio with average sound quality.
Terrible reception and does not work properly. Attempted to return it to Walmart and was informed it in NON Returnable. It is useless to me due to lack of reception. Never again. Probably should not buy anything from Walmarts “ Other Sellers”.
