I did some research into alarm clock radios, and the selection has really changed since the last time I looked! I was looking for an option with AM radio, which really narrowed the options. Sangean was mentioned repeatedly in "Best Clock Radio" lists I saw. Coming from a small Sony cube radio, I would have preferred a device with a smaller footprint as space on a nightstand is at a premium, but really that's my only critique. The clock and radio stations are pretty intuitive, and the numbers are easy to read at night (although if you are sensitive to light the display may be on the bright side just due to the size of the display). Pretty happy with it so far.
I was surprised at the excellent sound quality from such a small radio. It does not take up much space on the table, the display is an orange color, but pleasing enough. You can dim or brighten the display with the use of the knob on the bottom of the radio. The ability to see the frequency of the station you are looking for on the display is a big advantage. No guesswork involved. Unless you are under 13 years of age you will need to read the instructions to set the time, date, and stations. Grand-kids seem to know how to do this stuff but my gray hair gets in the way. It does not have any kind of battery back-up and the booklet claims that the settings you have entered will disappear if the radio loses power for 10 minutes or more. The last radio I bought that had pre-sets for the stations cost over $100, so I thought $40 (inc. tax) was a pretty good deal.
This is a good radio. Reception is very good. I use it at work and the station (FM station) I usually listen too is roughly 55 miles away from where I work and live. Sound is good also. Only wish it had a battery backup for power outages. But it does retain its time and everything for about 15 minutes when you unplug it and move it to another location.
easy to use, to set presets, turn volume up/down and change stations
This is a basic radio that works well. The dual alarms, snooze and nap functions also work well, but be sure to keep your instruction booklet (or be ready to read one online) because it is somewhat tricky to remember how to set them and turn them off. The reception is decent but smaller stations can have a bit of static, which is not unusual. Five AM stations and five FM stations can be preset so that it's not necessary to use the tuning knob to find them. The yellow-orange background to the time display is just right and is not distracting when you turn off the lights at night. When you tune in to a station, its number appears on the display for about 10 seconds before reverting to the time. It comes in either black or white, and I have had the white one for almost ten months and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable basic radio that allows you a number of preset stations.
I recommend this radio, but you have to test it in your own home to see how the reception is. If you get good reception, this is a great clock radio. Unlike comments on other web sites, the clock and alarm were easy to set. The brightness is easily adjustable. The speaker quality was better than on any other clock radio of similar or cheaper price. The digital tuner is much more convenient than analog tuners on cheaper radios. My FM reception was poor and I decided to return it. It may be that I live too close to my local radio towers, as I actually got better reception when the included antenna was tied up than when it was extended. But this clock radio is worth trying because if you do get good reception where you live, all the other features are superior to other clock radios in the same price range.
* Easy, yet functional controls * Soothing display, not too bright and easy to wake up to when set on low (yes, it's adjustable) * Average sounding radio with tinny quality, no EQ * Humane Wake Up feature is a plus, although it doesn't do it with the radio alarm, only the bell * Nap feature is really convenient with settings from 10 min - 120 min in 10 min increments * Snooze button only has one setting, every five minutes. A choice of minute settings would be nice, but the nap feature probably takes it's place if you're willing to groggily turn off the alarm and set the Nap button to the time of your choice. A lot to ask when wanting to 'sleep in' * Intuitive, 4 page instructions. Easy, easy, easy!
This is a beautiful looking radio with good sound quality, which is what we were looking for in a clock-radio. Unfortunately, the number display is much different than most clock-radios. Instead of having lit numbers on a black background, the entire display is lit from behind with small numbers that are not lit. I could not read the numbers without my glasses, and if we dimmed the light, it was still bright enough to light up the room, but I could not read the numbers at all. So it was a disappointment and we had to return it. We ordered a SONY ICF-C414, also from Walmart, which is just perfect for us. Great service from Walmart Ship to Store.
Wasn't what I expected too small gadgets were tiny. Manual was too tiny to read. Had to pay my own shipping and handling to return the merchandise very disappointed with diddydeals.com if you buy anything and don't want it, you have to pay for your own return they do not pay for return..
Very complicated
