I originally didn't intend to buy this but the other brand I usually get was out of stock so I had to get this instead. When I got home I read some reviews about this and they were largely negative so I thought I made a big mistake. But I decided to try it anyways and to my pleasant surprise it tastes great. It's not like what you get in fresh homemade sourdough bread but for sliced store bread I cannot find anything negative to say about it. Tastes great, wonderful consistency and not too dry and I have tried it with all kinds of things from chicken to tuna to peanut butter. Outstanding!
Sara Lee Sourdough Bread is okay for me. Slices are regular cut and it is good Avocado sandwich option because it has sour taste.
For me, there is nothing about this bread that suggest sourdough. When I think of sourdough I think of a crusty bread with a soft interior. This crust is more soft than anything. It's kind of dry and the interior falls apart easily like one of those loose no knead batter breads rather than a sourdough bread that is kneaded sort of dense and chewy. This bread is not dense or chewy and it does not have the distinct sour or tangy flavor. I can't recognize this as sourdough. As a regular bread I don't like this. It's dry and falls apart easily. It doesn't hold up as a sandwich bread. The other thing I really dislike about this bread is it's thick sliced. Using this for a sandwich means I have to choke it down. If you put fresh tomatoes or lettuce in a sandwich made with this bread it kind of disintegrates from the moisture. I didn't make French toast with this but I suspect it wouldn't stick together long enough to get it in a pan. It's better as regular toast than bread. It's more stable when it's toasted but again if it comes into contact with any moisture such as a sliced tomato it starts to fall apart. I couldn't recommend this bread for anything. I have to say I'm really disappointed with this product. Sara Lee used to be a dependable high quality product. I do like this new half loaf idea because I don't eat a lot of bread and when I do buy a full size loaf of bread I stick half of it in the freezer. Considering this cost as much as a regular full sized loaf and the quality is so sad it's not worth it. I won't be trying any of the other Sara Lee half loaf flavors.
My family does not eat Sara Lee bread, the texture and flavor always taste like 2 day old bread, not good for sandwiches (maybe toast, but not fresh bread). I DID NOT ask for Sara Lee as a substitute.
Tastes nothing like sourdough...more like plain white bread. KUDOS to SARA LEE for offering a half loaf size. I'm elderly and live alone, so not wasting bread is a BONUS!! THANK YOU!!
this is nothing at all like a sourdough bread. it is basically just a half loaf of white bread at an inflated price. the texture is like cake, and lacks the tang of a good sourdough. very disappointed and I will never purchase it again.
This was a replacement for another sourdough and it does not compare to the other one. I typically buy, which is so much better as far as texture and taste.
this bread has no flavor, least of sourdough flavor. Toasted with a little butter gets very soggy. Won't purchase this again.
Very poor taste. Too many chemicals. As at from sour dough as you can get. Threw the bread away. Nothing good about it
Doesn't taste like sourdough. tastes like white bread. Lewis Bake Shop has MUCH better sourdough!!!! will never buy Sara Lee sourdough again.
