Schwinn Collegiate Adult Hybrid Bike, 8 speeds, 700c wheels, women’s 19 inch frame, medium, large

Purchased this item for my wife a few weeks ago - I eventually returned the bike but I've listed the pros and cons Positives: Arrived securely packaged Assembly was straightforward and relatively easy The ride was smooth, stable quiet, but a little firm for my wife's tastes Bike is a quality product at a premium price Order online but able to return to store Negatives: Bike is on the heavy side - some effort is required to raise it into a bike rack Small size frame is good for heights 5'4" and above - the bike comes with an extremely long seatpost which does not lower completely. Riders under 5'4" may have to purchase a shorter seatpost There are no water bottle attachments on the women's model requiring you to use an screw down adjustable ring to affix a water bottle which really ruins the clean lines of the bike Ultimately the combination of having to purchase a lower seatpost to ensure proper frame fit and and no braze-ons for water bottles (the mens frame has these) were the reasons why we returned the bike. However the fit and finish were excellent and it rides extremely well

I love my new bike. It replaces my 50+ year old beloved Collegiate 5-speed, which has just worn out from use. I just wish the new one had a chain guard! The shifter is smooth and I was happy to use the instruction manual to tweak the handlebar angle.

Beautiful bike! Schwinn out did them selves with this Collab with Detroit bikes. A great ride for the light paths I have to work. I feel like a princess with this fine ride. I upgraded the seat to a brooks saddle and mounted a wicker basket on the front. Like riding a dream.

Very good service. And no problems with trying to rerun the bicycle.

I purchased this bike, knowing it is a throw back to the original to the 1967 Schwinn Collegiate. I really like the USA construction (WI chromoly steel, welded byDetroit bikes and assembled by pacific bikes). I can appreciate the color, knowing it was an anniversary bicycle. I did not shy from the price, knowing the history of both the steel company and Detroit Bikes. It would have been nice to have had an option. It rides smoothly and is well constructed. I have the small female bike. My complaints. The male bike has rivnuts to attach a water bottle - I guess girls doo not get thirsty. These are none on the female bikes. There is plenty of room on the seat tube or the top tube. Looking at the mediocre selection of add ons, makes me mad I dont have one (particulalry since the price and gear lines run closely under the upper and lower tubes). I wanted to pull a wheeled child carrier behind me. I purchased a common Schwinn style. Forget it. The rear drop out is so small and has too much going on (fender, gears...) I would have to remove a fender or find a metal worker to modify the coupler and washer to fit in the space available. Speaking of the washer, this is a Schwinn bike, I am trying to use a Schwinn carrier, why does the washer not fit the provided cut out to hold the washer in place? Adding a basket to the back (or a rack). Another case of not trying it out before putting it into production. There are rivnuts on the seat stays and the rear drop to accompany such an attachment. Sadly (poor) design placed it in line with the rear brake line. Again, if I was a metal smith, I could heat up the metal aluminum bars which come standard with most racks, and bend them (with heat) to go over the break. Better yet, why didnt they place the rivnuts 1 inch higher. My seat is almost all the way down, room is plenty. On this note. The rivnut on the drop out is at a place which a screw cannot be placed with an added locking nut. That is, unless you dont want to ride your bike. The nut would end up in the cassette/ gears. There is no support or great website for this bike. For $1000, they could have made some specialty items. It SHOULD have come with a matching chain guard, a matching rear rack, and the front badge should have been special, indicating its Limited Edition. If I could do it over, I would buy a bike from Detroit Bikes directly, skip Walmart (they should have chose a different store), and been able to customize it. You are on your own as to trying to add items to your bike, there are no Collegiate specific items, measurements, support pages, recommendation to figure out what to get. Its all trial and error at your own cost. I would pass.
