This folding bike is a little heavy. I'd be willing to pay a bit more for an aluminum frame. But it fit my requirements (a folding bike that would fit in a 4-seater airplane). The spray deflectors are not straight and not easy to adjust. I might simply remove them. The tires take too little air pressure; couldn't cost more than a few dollars for Schwinn to go from 35 psi to 60 psi. The kick stand is functional. The single speed gearing fits the low price. But, for the price, a nice little bike.

I got this to keep behind the third row seat of my minivan to ride from the building I work in about a mile to another building to meet with my supervisor. Works perfectly for that. It's a single speed, so I wouldn't want to take it on steep climbs. Also, with the small wheels, I don't think I'd want to ride on rough terrain, either. It's fine on a relatively flat, level bike path or street. When folded, it's similar in weight, size, and awkwardness to a standard folding wheelchair or large folding baby stroller (I've dealt with both of those). I could see putting this in a canoe to ride back to your put in point as long as the hills aren't too steep. Not a bike for the tall person. I'm 5'6" and it works for me with the seat almost all the way up, though feels a little like a clown cycle due to the small wheels. I did have to inflate the tires, adjust the brakes, and tighten some nuts before riding the first time.

This review is going to be a follow up to a previous review entitled UNBOXING. When I bought my Schwinn Hinge it was done with the thought that I needed a foldable bike that I could place inside a small towable camper. The terrain I would be riding on is generally flat with most of my trips being done on roads with occasional slight inclines. Any off road use took place on groomed trails with well packed soil. I debated back and forth about getting a bike with multiple gears only to adhere to my core belief that simplicity and reliability walk hand in hand. With just one gear that is capable of handling the terrain that I described above I was assured that there would be minimal chances of anything going wrong. My 3 day stay at the camping grounds with this bike proved very enjoyable. Folding and unfolding are straight forward. The gear ratio on this single speed bike was adequate. My girlfriend found the ratio a little to high on hills but I found it to be just right, allot depends on the strength of who is peddling, which is something you need to consider when reading other reviews. Since my campsite was 76 sites away from our daughters, I often spent the day commuting back and forth between the two sites. With this in mind I found the luggage rack very helpful as I often had odds and ends to carry. When I was in my 20s and flying around on my racing bike dreaming of the Tour De France I use to snicker at cyclist with kick stands, fenders and luggage racks. But now that I'm in my 50s I'm loving everyone of these accessories. The only two issues I have with this bike is when peddling very hard I felt a knock coming from the chain hub. This could be caused by different factors or a combination of factors. The odd thing is if I was peddling at a normal cadence the knock went away. When I get some free time I will further explore this single issue. The second issue had to do with the seat, as it was very uncomfortable and was soon replaced with a more user friendly model. The only change I would make to this bike is to eliminate the caliper brakes in favor of a coaster brake as it would eliminate two more external mechanical devices and their related cables. In all I'm very satisfied with this bike as it fits my needs as stated in the first paragraph. It's reasonably priced and comes with features that I found to be very useful. As I've only used it on this one trip and a few quick spins around the neighborhood there is no long term usage to say with certainty how it will hold up over time but I don't foresee any problems. In all I'm giving the Schwinn 4 out of 5 stars.

Unboxing review This review will cover only my experience with unboxing two Schwinn Hinge bicycles. My road test will be a separate review. The two boxes that my bicycles arrived in where undamaged and in good shape upon arrival. Unboxing one of these bikes is pretty straight forward as the bike is fully assembled and folded in the box so all you have to do is unfold it and install a single peddle and your ready to go The first bike was in good shape straight out of the box and other than tuning the spokes to keep the rim from rubbing on the brake pads it was basically ready to go The second bike was a different story. Remember that both of these bicycles arrived in undamaged boxes so any deficiencies that were discovered had to of been done at the facility where they were manufactured and not in the course of being transported to my house. The first thing that was apparent was that the rear of the luggage rack was bent so the reflector was pointing towards the ground. To straighten it I had to remove it from the bike and bend it back into shape in my workshop. Other than some cosmetic damage to the finish it is now functional. The second thing I noticed was neither of the tires had air in them. The tires and tubes were not damaged, they simply had no air in them. The first bike had air in the tires. The third thing I noticed was the valve stem came out of the rim at an angle making it almost impossible to pump the tire up as the head of the pump was difficult to attach in such a position. To fix this I removed the tire from the rim and repositioned the tube then remounted the tire. Without tire irons this would have been difficult to do. The forth thing I noticed was when spinning the crank that it would make a thumping noise. This was caused by the chain ring being bent. To show how week the metal for the chain ring is all I had to do was whack it once with a rubber mallet to straighten it out. The fifth thing I noticed was that the rear tire fender was rubbing on the rear wheel. There is one bolt that you can loosen to raise it up to keep this from making contact with the tire. Some of these defects were cosmetic while other ones, such as the bent chain ring and bent valve stem would have caused a broken chain or flat tire eventually. So in conclusion you stand a 50/50 chance of getting a undamaged rideable bike straight out of the box. Not the best odds in the world, but if your mechanically inclined and have access to common house hold tools making a few repairs should provide you with a workable bike.

Received with deformed steering chainrings, and also the right pedal is missing. Contacted seller, with no response in more than 96 hours.

Bike was damaged in the box and we could not see the damage by looking in the box, the pedal crankshaft was bent. Unfortunately had it put together before we realized it could not be ridden with the damage, the chain would not stay on. So much for Schwinn quality control as likely it was packed for shipping with the bent pedal crankshaft.

The frame, piece to hold the chain was bent, the breaks squeaked like crazy luckily I was able to get a refund.
