A great bike for $200! Order and arrival was prompt. No damage to box or contents. It took about 1 hour to assemble. Easy directions with owners manual. Adjusted breaks and gears after all put together. Applied gear and chain lubricant. Rides and shifts smoothly. Seat is comfortable. Love the silver and teal blue color. Light weight aluminum frame is a bonus. Have owned Schwinn bikes before, good quality. Can't wait to get out and on the trails here in PA!!
I have always owned Schwinn bikes, so I was excited that this one was in my price range when I needed to buy a bike. It arrived timely and without damage. I watched a YouTube video on how to assemble, and only looked at the manual for the handlebar brake setup. Some of the other reviews said that the chain was coming off the bike and mine did as well. The front derailleur needed to be adjusted, which took another helpful YouTube video to help me achieve. That alone took about 45 minutes. After I had it all assembled (with the gears shifting properly) it was a smooth ride and what Schwinn is known for.
My daughter loves her new bike! She's 10 years old and 5' and though it's just a little big for her, I know it will last her a while as she keeps getting taller. Great quality and ride. The brakes were very tight and my husband had to watch videos in order to fix them before my daughter could use the bike.
Easy to assemble, sturdy and handles trails well. Overall an excellent bike for the price. It looks really sharp too!
So I've been looking through countless reviews of high end bicycles, and tried to find out what were the best components for a bike, and we finally decided on the Schwinn Sidewinder Series... It has a threadless headset, four holding screws for the handle bars, it's a hard tail (for the price, you won't find good full suspension), and a pretty decent overall design. It's still a cheap bike, but it does really good for the price... The only issue I've noticed, is the fork. It bottoms out if I drop a manual too hard... The breaks should also be replaced with disc brakes, but that requires replacing the rim, and can take some effort. I wouldn't ride this on anything more than beginner trails unless you do some mods on it, but modding it, shouldn't be hard... It's pretty compatible.
Good looking bike and rides well. Gave it four stars because I can't raise handlebars. Would like them a little higher. I like my seat high. Seat adjusts easily. Ride daily with grandson when he has a break from tele-school.
Having issues with my bike had to file a claim hoping I get it resolved soon before the end of the summer kind of disappointed because I really didn't get to enjoy riding the bike last summer when I purchased it because of the issues with it
It's a beautiful bike. It did show up in a box, partially assembled. The only confusing part was the the instructions did not specify which steps had been completed. Still a pretty simple assembly. Overall, very happy with the purchase and it make a very happy girl on Christmas.
Note: This review is of the newer aluminum model of the Sidewider. Most of the reviews for this bike are from the older steel framed version, (with the silver colored seat post and handlebars) which would be a heavier bike. I bought this for my wife. Note that this newer model of the Sidewinder has an aluminum frame with a threadless headset; the older model was a steel frame and quill headset. You won't find many aluminum frame bikes for a buck and a half. This bike weighed 31.6 lbs on my scale fully assembled; pretty good for a basic bike. The components are otherwise basic but functional. A basic Shimano Tourney rear derailleur provides index or "click" shifting from a twist grip. The front derailleur is not labeled and is a "friction" or linear shifter, meaning it does not "click" into gear but you have to move the derailleur guide the appropriate amount with the twist shifter on the grip. But they are functional and work well. Front fork is a no name basic spring with maybe 2" of travel. There is no preload adjustment. The seat was a little firm for my wife's taste; I exchanged it with a more padded one. Brakes are linear pull brakes. The tires are unlabeled. They are 2 x 2.5 with a modest knobby pattern. Suitable for all around use including casual off road, though if your primary riding is on the street you might want to opt for more narrow tires with a solid center bead. Rims are reported to be alloy and look like they may be double walled, but there is no label indicating it. Spokes are black, probably steel. The bike comes with a kickstand. I was disappointed to find there were no quick release mechanisms for either the front or rear wheels. I ordered this bike on-line and assembled it myself. It's not difficult but I am experienced working on bikes. The instructions that came with it were clear and complete. The wheels were true. The brakes and front derailleur needed adjustment. If you are not handy with tools you might want to have a bike shop adjust it for you. Overall, a good basic aluminum bike for the price I paid. It is suitable for casual street and off-road use. It is noticeable lighter than the same sized steel frame bike my wife had. My wife likes it and says it rides well, and she likes the lighter weight. It's a pretty good bet for a bike in this price range.
Save your money... This one is not of Schwinn quality. The first one I bought fell apart at the crank by 3 months. (I just made it under the wire for the return and was able to exchange it) I thought it was a fluke since I have owned several Schwinn bikes over the years and most have lasted 7-8 years with daily riding. NOT A FLUKE! The exact same bike, exact same problem only this time, it made it 6 months so not eligible for return or exchange, so I'm out $149. Repaired twice and still fails. The best part of this bike is the aluminum frame which makes it light enough to load onto the back of a truck or load in a trunk when it falls apart and you have to call someone to pick it up. (So that's the 1 star!)
