The Best

KenxB July 5, 2025

Have been usinbg Scots 4 Step Program for about 10 years My lawn is the thickest, greenest and non-weed or crabgrass lawn in the entire neighborhood. Love the program!!

loved it

JanLor May 20, 2012

We just used this Step 2 on our lawn, after Step 1 earlier this spring. The rapid improvement was remarkable! The much-hated pesky weeds started drying up and withering away in no time; and, after a rainfall the following day, the grass was a new brilliant shade of green! Last year we used a lawn-care service; this year, we're doing it ourselves w/ Scott products -- cheaper, and we are happier w/ the results.

Great product

DaveAbby June 14, 2019

I used the Scott's 4 step program for several years then tried another product one year. The results with the non Scott's product was terrible. Back to Scott's for the next 3-4 years. My lawn looks great!! I strongly recommend the Scott's 4 step program. A bit more $ than other products but well worth the investment.

Step 2: disappointing! Burned the heck of my lawn

MA novice July 12, 2020

My wife and I are first time homeowners and also inexperienced in lawn care. Earlier this year our painter convinced us to buy Scotts' 4 Step Program. We applied Step 1 in early April (we live in MA) and were satisfied with the results as we saw significantly less crabgrass in our yard than last year. Then in late May we applied Step 2 with much anticipation as this appear to be the best rated product in Scotts' program. Results were disappointing, to say the least. For starters, it was only mildly effective to kill existing weeds -- certain types of weeds actually appeared "healthier" after the application! What's perhaps worse is that after a few days our lawn started to brown in a lot of large patches, particularly where more directly exposed to sun light, until it eventually burned and totally decimated existing grass in some of these areas. To note that we followed the application instructions as prescribed on the product package. We are now deciding whether to also put down Steps 3 and 4 or if we should simply call a landscape company to try and recover our lawn. One thing is certain: next year we are not applying Scotts' Step 2 to our lawn!

Unilaterally obliterated my whole lawn

DoneWithScotts2 July 3, 2025

I have used their 4 step program on multiple lawns for years. This one is the last. Step 2 unilaterally destroyed nearly my entire picture perfect lawn in one foul application. The front, side and back are all dead and patchy as can be. But what area is still perfectly green? My garden yard. Where no Scotts products are applied ever because of the edible plants. And because I purchased it from my local garden center, and not one of their listed agents, I imagine I am going to have to eat every dead blade by myself with no assistance from them. Avoid their products.

Scott's step 2 KILLED my perfectly plush lawn

Pingo July 6, 2025

Finally got my lawn where I wanted it and applied Scott's step 2 exactly as the package explained - While leaves are wet and not before any heavy rains. 5 days later my lawn was completely torched. I am devastated. Took me a ton of work last fall and this spring to get my lawn where I wanted. Literally have to start over. I'll never use this stuff again and suggest that nobody does. Absolute garbage.

does not work

paddyg58 June 16, 2025

Killed no lawn violets, barely any clover.Did it in a cross pattern so not to have missed spots. Lawn was dewy and material was sticking to leaves. Not worth the money or time spent.

Coverage Not Even Close

Matt116 May 6, 2020

This is the 4th Scotts product Ive used in the last several months and this one, 5000sqft bag of Step 2, along with the same size step 1 and a 1000sqft bag of starter fertiizer doesnt come cose to covering what the bag says it shoud. After the step 1 didn't cover I checked my spearder cal and its spot on. The only product that came close to coverage was a 4000sqft bag of Scotts Turf Buider Thick R Lawn 3 in 1 mix. So its not the spreader. The 2 5000sqft bags barley did 2500sqft each and the 1000ft bag didn't make 300sqft. I would like a refund of half what I paid for these products since thats all they really cover. Step 1 and 3 in 1 purchased late Feb early March. Step 2 and starter purchased May 4th.

So so upset..

DisappointedwScotts June 20, 2020

Live in New England and with all the rain and mild Spring we had my lawn was lush, green and healthy. My neighbors all remarked about how great it looked also. Applied step 2 with Scott's spreader - this is year three of following the program and now my lawn is burnt yellow with dead patches all throughout. You can even see trail marks of dead yellow grass where the wheels of the spreader made its path. Never again. I was a true believer
