I read many reviews about this item, some good, some not so good, but I have nothing but praise for this USB 3.0 external HD. Because it's white, I'll never lose it among all my black devices on the desk, and it offers more than enough storage space to keep everything I could possibly want to store, including all my videos and pictures. If you want a fast 3.0 storage device with tons of memory at a reasonable price, this is it. Like most of its kind, it has a soft glowing, blinking light when in use that stays lit while plugged into your computer.
I wanted to try this one because I wanted the white hard drive to match the white PS5. And it worked great! So maybe “Photo Drive” is misleading or targeted marketing but it's just like other drives but in white and cheaper.
Because I have another Seagate Back Up External Drive and I am very satisfied with it as well.
The Seagate Photo Drive featuring Mylio Create is a fantastic way to back up and secure all your photos in one location. At about the size of your hand, this back up drive is easy to store and perfect for travel. The USB port makes it a quick connect to any computer and allows you to free up space by moving all your photos to the external drive. You can Auto sync 4 computers, super handy when moving from laptop to desktop for fine tuned editing. Create your own storage system or utilize the one within Mylio Create. You can also use an adapter to fire cord and quickly connect it to any iPhone or iPad. USB power means one less cord to carry. The three year subscription included to Mylio is a lovely bonus.
I bought this flash drive as an end-of-the-semester gift to myself to save all of the files and videos from my online classes. I saved all of my work from this semester to this flash drive and many hours worth of lectures and I barely put a dent in the storage capacity of this! It works great for regular documents as well as photos and videos. I'd recommend this to anyone who's trying to organize their digital life or remove items from your computer to improve performance. For this price, snag this if you see it!
I didn't use the Mylio software. (I understand there are much better alternatives out there.) However, the hard drive is working well for storing my photos. Although it meets my needs, if you want speed, you might consider an SSD drive instead. Pricier, but much faster.
The most common question or related question seems to be: Is this normal external drive? Can I use it for files other than photos. Simple answer: It is a normal external drive and it supports any file format that you use with Windows or Mac. If you're looking for something fast(er) than consider buying a 3.5 instead of 2.5 (keep it mind 35 aren't typicall designed to be portable). The Mylio "Photo Drive" advertisement is a gimmick. Mylio isn't even bundled with drive. It's downloaded from the internet and has a limited mult-year "premuim" version but you can use the free version as well without needing to buy the drive. Mylio itself is a photo catalog app that allows editing of photos and videos. If that's something you're interested in then I recommend downloading the app first to test drive it. It doesn't store your photos and videos in an offline storage (if that's something you're looking for). It does have a redundancy system in case you want to restore a previously edited file. There are however plenty of other paid and free photo and video editing tools that do a similar or better job... without needing access to all of your devices. If you're just looking for simple, cheap drive then look no further. I always recommend buying new instead from resellers or refurbished (unless you don't care about the data) when it comes to HDDs. Too many bad experiences to recommend otherwise. The drive itself is moderately quick (see attached photo). You should be able to format it to NTFS or Ext1 but it should support any other file format. It should function on any device including consoles that support up to or greater than 2TB. Backup the original HDD files to an online account before formatting the drive. I would've given this 5 stars but I don't like white enclosures, the speed, and gimmicky software/product bundling.
Product is claimed to be a harddrive with integrated Mylio Photo Organizer 3 year subscription. After installation the Mylio application keeps asking for a key to register the product which was supposed to be emailed to me. Not having received the key, I have contacted Seagate repeatedly to request my key, but have not received this and am very frustrated.
This photo organizer program is a big zero. Not only did it not save and organize photos for me, but it never let me set it up to begin things. In the first place it does not have a program to do the work, you have to subscribe to such a program. I spent a lot to begin with is for the organizer. Now I find out that I could have had the organizer without the big price tag, by subscribing for it.
This does not work the way I thought it did. I wanted to be able to transfer all of my personal photos from my work computer to my external storage. All I could do is save it in the drive but then looked on my computer and all of the files are still there taking up space on my computer. It doesn't show up as a separate drive that you can just drop your files in I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong or what but when I unplug it I don't want to be able to access my photos and that's not how this works. It like saves a copy for them and I don't know how to get it to save in the drive only. I don't need a software to organize my pics and access them anywhere I just needed storage.
