Best Buy on the Best Storage

BertSmooth May 8, 2026

I've been using Seagate external hard drives for at least 20 years now and I have found them to be very dependable and well built for a very reasonable priced external hard drives. Seagate external hard drives are the best option that you can get as far as I'm concerned. I won't buy anything else, some of my 4TB portable drives are reaching the 20 year mark and they're still going strong. The read and write speeds are great, I do a lot of photo editing and video editing and I need hard drives that won't fail under pressure of immense use. They never let me down, and that's why I keep buying them. My most recent purchases were the big 32TB and 6TB desktop expansion drives, and they work seamlessly with my Mac's.

Gets the job done quickly.

This Desktop Hard Drive worked very well. I was able to transfer a lot of files from the internal Hard Drive to save a lot of space which made the desktop run faster. No issues with this Drive.

Great value for solid drives

Becky February 10, 2026

Seagate Expansions consistently offer some of the best value available, especially now that HDD prices are spiking across the board. The 22TB drives I purchased are a little on the loud side, but for the performance you get for the price I honestly can't hold that against them. Great drives, I will likely pick up a few more at this price. #sweepstakes

I love my Portable HD

JayBoy March 1, 2026

This is the second I've owned. My first took a lot of drops off of my desk and it finally gave out. Totally my own abuse. It was almost five years old and kept working up until the last hard drop. I ordered a second one and I'm very pleased. Nice look.

Excellent Value Backup Drive – Perfect for Media Storage

BatMan February 17, 2026

I purchased this Seagate external HDD specifically to back up my entire media collection and other files that don't require SSD-level speeds, and it has been serving its purpose flawlessly. Transfer speeds are exactly what you'd expect from a traditional HDD — more than fast enough for large media files, archives, and backups. For cold storage and long-term media storage, it's perfect. I didn't need SSD performance, and this drive delivers reliable capacity at a fraction of the cost. The biggest win here is the value. The price per GB is extremely hard to beat. If you're building out a media library, Plex server, or just need dependable backup storage without overspending, this is an excellent choice. No complaints so far — it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Highly recommended.

Good and we will see how it holds up long term

Dave January 21, 2026

I purchased the 6TB external drive for a Time Machine backup on my MAC. My previous 4TB external died (also Seagate). This one runs quiet and in the background. Time will tell if it holds up. the previous drive did not meet my expectations on longevity.

Works great, decent value in these times

Yan February 9, 2026

I need tons of storage for my home lab, and these drives are the best deal on the market right now due to the AI boom. I'm not excited about the price, because proper server drives like the IronWolf were the same price a year or two ago, but these drives have performed as well as I need them to over the past month. These appear to be HAMR Barracuda drives with read/write speeds comparable to the IronWolf drives I already own, with a much shorter warranty that is voided by a minuscule PoH limit.

I would not buy this again

lasmadas January 10, 2026

I bought this expansion drive in December 2025 from Seagate.com, by the beginning of January after loading all my information on to it. one day it just stopped working. It did not appear on my file explorer and when I checked in disk management it said the drive was not initiated or formatted. I contacted Seagate and was told after checking and sending them screen shots that I would get an email in 3 to 5 business days on what to do to have my drive evaluated and repaired if possible. I told him this drive is not even 30 days old and he checked something and said I would get an email within 2 business days on what to do. I told him I had data recovery on the drive when I bought it. He said everything would be explained in the email. Still waiting for the email. The drive makes a scratching/static sound when the light comes on. Almost like it is short circuiting. Now I have to pay to ship the drive back to Seagate where I bought it.

Bought 2. 1 didn't work. I had to pay to return it.

MortalSmurph February 3, 2026

I bought 2 external hard drives. One failed within a week. I had to pay to get a replacement. Factor in failures and returns to whatever price you see. The drive failed to write within 5 days. I couldn't even format it. Fortunately the drive could be read from for another few days.

Attempted to use this drive in a NAS but did not work

Ian February 3, 2026

I opened up the enclosure and took this drive out to use in my 4-drive NAS. It would work fine for a day or so and then the NAS would start to complain about the drive and I had to remove the drive and put it back in and then it would work for another day or so and then go unresponsive again. After doing this a few times, I eventually just replaced the drive with another one, but since I removed the drive from its enclosure I know I rolled the dice and lost with the warranty but it was the first time I've ever had a problem out of over a dozen external drives I've used in NAS enclosures before.
