I am not sure how anyone gave this a bad review. It works perfectly! I had enough coir per cell and all of my plants are healthy and well watered. It's been a few weeks and I only watered twice since buying this tray. I water directly in the tray not the cells, and each cell has good moisture with the wicking system. Everything is coming up beautifully on its own.
I bought this five days ago. Not sure why everyone else struggled with the pellets, I added warm water and they expanded quickly and were soft to easily break and plant. Already have seeds sprouting and growing. Probably helps being outside in warm weather. My kid is having fun watching them grow.
After reading many reviews about the pellets not expanding I turned my kettle on and poured hot water on them. They INSTANTLY expanded so much they popped over the edges like muffins. Now I have to wait for them to cool down before planting my seeds.
I bought this a few weeks ago from a local store. There were a couple pallets that didn't grow right away but I just kept adding some warm water to them and eventually they were just fine. I planted seeds and every single one has worked perfectly. I added a grow light about a weekend and my plants are looking great and I'm excited to get them in the ground, as late as it is in the season.
Using this plus a heating mat for germinating seeds works great! seeds germinated much quicker than usual.
I bought the 16 cell self watering ultimate grow system and I am very happy with the results. It is easy to put together, and the soil pellets softened with hot water and spread well with the wooden stick included in the kit. Within 5 days my tomato seeds and zucchini seeds were sprouting. In 10 days the cucumber and red pepper plants were sprouting. I am looking forward to a great garden this year.
Just started seeds in two of these kits today. Pellets expanded easily. instructions were a little unclear, and the set up is a *little* finicky - but overall I'm impressed and appreciate that I can reuse them next year by adding my own soil.
The Seed Starting System was fine. After I started "hardening" the plants less than half survived. I was particularly disappointed with the SuperSauce hybrid- only 3 out of 4 pods germinated to plant size and only one plant is left hanging on for dear life in the garden
Pros: it really does keep the soil moist and germination was fast and good. Cons (and this is big): you can't get the seedlings out without knocking the other plants around. My transplanted plants may not survive, and I may have to start all over again, weeks from planting outdoors.
The coir pellets that came with the two seed starting kits I purchased are bricks. The pellets have not expanded (after soaking, draining, then soaking again). I've wasted a day waiting for something to happen, instead of planting. Now I'll have to spend more time to go get some seed starting mix.
