Feels like a quality product. Heavy and solid construction. Roomy enough to hold 81/2 x 11 paper flat, and deep enough for an impressive number of papers, photos, etc. Handle makes it easier to carry this roughly 20 lb. safe-box. A good solution for gathering, storing and protecting my most vital documents. Very pleased with this purchase.
We just bought a second lockbox after having one for ten years. Our bank is doing away with safe deposit boxes (by doubling the annual fee) so we closed it and needed additional storage space at home. While we've never had a fire or flood to live test the box, it feels very secure. It locks securely and has reassuring heft. The price is fair and the company guarantee is reassuring.
I purchased this safe with the intent of keeping my invaluable documents inside.Wasn't crazy about placing them in airtight containers but it was a 1000% better than where they were currently kept, which was an antique metal box. Was planning on doing this years ago but you know how that goes. The wife spied this in one of the stores we frequent and that's all she wrote, we bought it! A GREAT investment. Seen many people loose irreplaceable items and You do not want to go through that!! BELIEVE ME!!!! Get out there and purchase one it's a lot cheaper than going through the process of trying to sort things out. A worthwhile investment which will give you peace of mind instead of loosing it down the road. Don't roll the dice. Keep everything SAFE!!!!
I received as a gift. However I been wanting this for along time. Its essential to put important documents etc away safely in the event if any kind of disaster. Now I can! Its a great size, heavy enough to know its a great safe.
Intended use was to store valuable mechanics. Airtight seal prevents this. Removed airtight seal in order to allow free air circulation. Remains to be tested. Given the mass and weight of the object, the retractable handle feels slightly flimsy and fragile. Time will tell...
Feels solid but is heavy to carry in an emergency. Lock seems a bit flimsy as it is plastic. Interior dimensions make it tight to fit a standard 8 1/2 by 11 document with curling the edge. That being said, it was large enough to hold everything I needed to put in it. Would be nice to have a slightly larger interior (increase by 1/2 inch in both dimensions). Hopefully it is as fire resistant and waterproof as claimed in a disaster situation.
I bought this safe because it was the lightest and least expensive one I could find that had a 1-hour burn time (most small boxes are only 1/2 hour). This is definitely a fire safe, not a security safe -- it couldn't be, because it's light enough to pick up and carry away -- and so the lock is not very solid. That's not a problem for me, because I'm going to store my will and similar documents in it and then put it away for many years without opening it. The biggest drawback is that the interior is just exactly large enough for 8.5" wide documents, so if your documents have a cover or are in an envelope, they will be a bit crunched and will have to bend or fold to fit. Be sure to read the instructions. There are suggestions for how to position the safe for maximum protection, and as with most fire safes of this type, the fire-protective materials are high in moisture. That moisture could cause damage to moisture-sensitive contents, especially when sealed in over long periods of time, so they recommend you place moisture-sensitive items in sealed plastic bags. I added small desiccant gel packs to the bags to absorb any moisture trapped inside.
The Key is difficult to use, its heavy and the handle is very loose and awkward location and on the way of trying to put the key in. Could have been better engineered . Also any little thing gets in the way around the seal (like paperwork ) it will not shut .
I purchased the medium chest safe because if specifically stated it was letter sized. I have a few documents which I could take out of the binders they are in but even a single sheet of letter sized paper curls up at the edges rather than laying flat inside the safe. Also, the lock is extremely difficult to engage.
Had this for less than six months and the lock already broke on it the "new style" keys are quite cheaply made and I thought it would make the safe safer having a different style of key but all that it is is a metal tube with a magnet in the middle as soon as the magnet stops working so does your safe and to be completely honest it was easier to break into than any safe I've seen I literally broke into it with my bare hands
