I love this safe because it's the perfect size for my important documents. I had three floods in my basement and I love that it is fire and waterproof.
This firebox is sturdy and very heavy duty. I bought it to store important documents. However, it was too heavy for me to even move it. I had to literally use a hand-cart to move it! There is no handle to aid in moving it. It is advertised as a firebox, but honestly it is more like a small safe. I like its other features but I don't know why they made it so dang heavy!
This safe is just what I was looking for to organize and protect our important documents. However, with no handles, it is very awkward to move around. It also has a couple of defects: 1. The plastic cover is cracked. 2. It dumps white powder into the compartment and storage surface.
Social worker insisted we put all legal papers in safety deposit box. But everytime I need one it's a trip to the bank. At 42 lb. I could put this on a rolling tray to move in/out of closet. This was one fee vs high annual fee to bank. The hanging file style lets us color code & label papers yet they are protected.
This site is extremely strong and heavy (which is good), however, it needs handles on the sides! I don't think it would injure the integrity of the wood and fire properties of the safe. I'll handle on the top would not be good because the lock seems to be average compared to the weight and strength of the safe. It is very difficult to move the safe without handles. I think you can probably figure out something in your subsequent models!
This unit is very heavy and hard to lift/carry. Does not have handles. Not what I would call a spacious inside.
I wanted a small safe to keep my personal documents safe and secure. I first bought a cheaper sentry safe that I thought would work but when I got it out of the box the bottom of the safe was swollen and wouldn't sit flat. I took it back and decided to step up a price range to this safe. It seemed great until I tried to put hanging folders and file folders in it and realized this safe was also swollen and the files couldn't fit inside without bending. I had to trim 1/4" off of every folder to get them to fit. If you need a cheap safe to keep documents safe this might work but it is a cheap quality safe. If you want a nice safe keep looking.
The first day I got this safe home I started to fill it. I left the lid up overnight and came back in the morning to find the entire lid broke through the material/hinge and fell off. This safe broke under its own weight on the first day.
The safe was fine for the first three months after purchase, the hinges on the back started to fail at that point and after the fourth month the lid simply separated from the base.
A screw driver and a hammer will open it ion one blow. Worse than the last one I had. It was filthy with internal and external dust. The inside gasket was caught between the lid and the box itself in two places rendering the gasket useless. Since I have a week to go for my next back operation I had no choice but to keep it. The weight is to much for my to carry back to the car then to the store to return it in my current condition. Plus they only had that one left. Then I went on line to register it and finally got through the worst site I've ever had to deal with and I also wanted to order out two now key and it wouldn't recognize the key code. So now I have to call and tell them whats going on to purchase two spare keys that cost half as much as the safe itself. I have given at lest ten of these as presents in the past but that will not occur again.
