Initial review: we got these units as supplements to our central air in Phoenix. It does a great job in cooling down our sleeping rooms where the central air just isn't able to cool those areas very well. I made some modification when setting up the window hot air exhaust hose. - you will probably need an additional window kit. Our vertical window was too large and our smaller winders were too small for the kit that came with the units. Too bad because they seemed like good quality items. - to add stability for the exhaust plate block In the window, I cut some cardboard, rolled it up into a round long piece, wrapped it in duct tape and wedged it between the window and the plate. This keeps the exhaust plate my more sturdy in the window. - on my vertical window, to keep it from sliding open at all (unlikely to happen but still) I had some suction cups that screw onto the window and increase the suction grip as you screw. I placed three of these along the window and now they won't open at all. - to create some more insulation at the exhaust plate, I cut a piece of cardboard to the plate and then bought some foam insulation and glued it to the cardboard. Now just place that in the window behind the exhaust plate to prevent more hot air from coming in.
This works so much better than I expected. We still have Air conditioning and power issues from the summer hurricanes this year. This unit cools and dehumidifies our house enough to be more than just comfortable, but actually cold sometimes. It covers a good amount of square footage, we have a small 1200 sq ft south Florida home and it works for us when needed. Perfect for anyone in a storm area that loses power and needs a/c. This and a generator is the difference between tolerable and not after the storm during hurricane season. Very satisfied so far.
This air conditioner cools down my 360 sq. ft. bedroom and bathroom quickly. I haven't tried sleeping with it yet, but I think this will do exactly what I needed it to do. My bedroom is warmer than the rest of the house with the thermostat in the other side of the house. This air conditioner will allow me to turn off the air to the house and just run this portable one at night. I live in Arizona and the nights are quite warm. If I have any updates I will add them.
I purchased this air conditioning last year for my apartment's loft bedroom which is at the highest point of the building and has a sloped ceiling and therefore gets very hot and stuffy in the summer. Setting it up was fairly quick and easy and it does a great job at lowering the temperature and removing the humidity in the room in a short time. The only reason I can't give it five stars is because of the window kit - the extensions made the piece way too long for my window. I ended up cutting a piece of styrofoam and sliding that into the end of the main piece and then using duct tape to hold all of it in place. The plastic pieces are not constructed in a way that you can push them down and have them straddle the bottom of the window. Instead you need to balance it on top, close the window, and then tape everything so it holds. At least, this was the best way I found of doing it. I may look into a universal window kit. I didn't think it was any louder than a standard in-the-window/wall A/C unit. I got used to the noise right away (it's really only noisy when the compressor kicks in) and it totally acts as white noise to block out sounds from neighbors. You will need a decent sized bucket for the drain hose especially on humid days/evenings because it pulls a ton of water from the air, even in a smaller room. But the inconvenience of emptying a water bucket every day is totally worth it to have a cool room to sleep in during the summer. And the cat loves it, too!
I really liked that the unit came with a window mount for the hose. No more cutting foam to fit the gap in the window. It fit our horizontal window just fine. My only complaint is that the hose material is translucent enough to let in sunlight during the morning. We have not tried the wifi settings yet.
Purchased at Home Depot online. It was a bit difficult to connect every thing. Found out it doesn't work with roll out casement windows without a separate kit or diy project to make it work. Beyond that major concern, it actually works well and fast. Great for a bedroom or office space. Would highly recommend if you have slide windows.
I bought this for my room, I have central air but unfortunately, I have a sister who has RA and running the air is not optional. It's portable which I like, but it not as quiet as I had hoped, especially for the bedroom. the fan however is quiet, which kind of defeats the purpose of buying a portable air conditioner. If I had known, it was loud I probably would have gone with another brand. I have it now and will have to live with it. Other than the loudness it is a decent air conditioner. If you are looking for a quiet air conditioner look elsewhere
This portable airconditioner was very loud but not that powerful!! It also never seemed to go in automatic eco mode. It was of very good quality and very easy to install. Unfortunately I had to return it though, as it didn't get enough check marks.
I debated between 3 and 4 stars, but the constant tick/clack of the unit when the compressor when it kicks on gets it a 3 rating. If it was quieter it would have been a 4. It definitely does cool the room, just with more noise than I'd prefer. If it is in a bedroom the compressor kicking on and ticking away during the night may be bothersome if your not a really deep sleeper.
The cooling ability of this product is fantastic, but the terrible design is what prevents me from giving anything above 3 stars. The less annoying issue was that the plastic housing that goes in the window is absurdly long. I had it as small as it would go and it would not fit sideways in a standard bedroom window. I had to take the plastic into the garage, throw it in my vice, and saw a few inches off of it. There is still a foot or more that it could be extended. . . so you're in luck if you have five foot wide windows. The largest design issue of this product is the bottom intake fan's lack of access for cleaning. The top intake has two filters that can be removed for removing dust etc. yet the bottom requires the entire product to be disassembled. I figured out how to disassemble the product myself since there is nothing online that has any sort of instruction but most people will not do this and their unit will break sooner rather than later. I can't imagine that this incredibly obvious design flaw was overlooked - I assume it is intentional to hasten along planned obsolescence. Either that or collusion with the handymen and women of the world. . .
