First, let me start by saying that this bookcase is much nicer than your typical bookcase. We have children ranging from 16-years-old to 6-months-old, so we have had quite the array of furniture. Most bookcases will last a few years at most as they wear quickly with corners chipping, shelves becoming wobbly, or a gradual lean becoming apparent. This product, however, is much sturdier than other brands we have used. It is MDF as usual, but much thicker than we expected. We had no problems with assembly regarding it splitting or cracking like we have with others in the past. All holes lined up and the finished product is heavy enough to feel safe around little ones (no threats of knocking it over on carpet). The finish is smooth and there are no cosmetic blemishes that are common in cheaper furniture. It was packed spectacularly, which really assisted with minimizing damage during shipping that often occurs with furniture items. Ours is gray, and the color is appropriate for both girls and boys. You won’t need a toolbox for assembly either. It comes with all parts needed, and even an extra bag of parts in case you lose one. All you need from your own supplies is a screwdriver, the Allen wrench is included. The shelves are stationary, which we love - no little metal pieces to put them on where they can be toppled over. This bookcase is a lot bigger than it may look online, it certainly was a surprise to us. The box it delivers in doesn’t do the size justice either – it is heavy though so make sure you have some assistance bringing it in if you are not able to lift/shuffle large heavy items. It can easily hold all our daughter’s books and the bottom portion with its gated front is great for holding her stuffed lovies. There really is not a con that we can think of about this bookcase unless you are not able to carry/move it due to physical limitations. My husband was even able to put it together on his own while entertaining our 6-month-old, that is how easy it was. Pay attention to the pictures in the instructions and you will have a cherished piece of versatile furniture that will last quite a long time that will rival the expensive specialty store brands.

I RECEIVED THE SERTA HAPPY HOME BOOKCASE AND WAS REALLY SURPRISED. I HAD TO GET HELP TO GET IT IN THE HOUSE. AN INSTRUCTION BOOK WAS INCLUDED IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH. IT SAID THERE WAS A VIDEO ON LINE BUT THERE WASN'T ONE ON THE BOOKCASE. I DID LEARN IT WAS FROM DELTA CHILDREN WHICH HAS BEEN THE SAFEST NAME IN CHILDREN'S FURNITURE FOR OVER 45 YEARS. ADULT ASSEMBLY IS REQUIRED AND ALTHOUGH I HELPED MY HUSBAND IN OUR WOOD WORKING SHOP SOME OF IT WAS CONFUSING BUT I GOT THERE. IT IS A REAL PRETTY GREY AND STRONG AND STURDY WOOD. IT HAS TWO SHELVES WITH AN OPEN CUBBY HOLE ON THE BOTTOM FOR EXTRA STORAGE. IT COMES WITH AN ANTI-TIP KIT PLUS IT HAS BEEN TESTED FOR LEAD AND OTHER TOXINS THAT MEETS OR EXCEEDS ASTM SAFETY STANDARDS. THE GABLED ROOF ADDS TO THE CUTENESS. YOU CAN DECORATE IT FOR A GIRL OR BOY. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT ON WAYS TO USE THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF FURNITURE. WALMART HAS THE BEST PRICE. ASSEMBLED IT MEASURES 36.5 INCHES LONG, 45 INCHES TALL AND 12.25 INCHES WIDE. IT WEIGHS 64.7 POUNDS. IT WOULD LOOK GREAT IN ANY ROOM. I HAVE MINE IN THE LIVING ROOM FOR NOW WITH A COOKIE JAR AND OTHER GOODIES IN IT.

The Serta Happy Home Bookcase has been a nice addition to my daughter's bedroom. When I showed her the picture of what was coming in the mail she was very excited. She couldn't wait to add her stuffed toys behind the fence, just like in the picture. The package arrived in good condition. Serta does a good job at making sure the box and packaging materials inside keep the bookcase safe during shipment. It also helps that this bookcase is of high quality. I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled the pieces out of the box. The pieces are thick and sturdy wood and have been painted with a nice finish. The company also took the time to paint almost all the edges and sides, even parts that would not necessarily show while in use. It was nice not to have the rough edges left exposed, like I've had with other desks and bookshelves, that can catch and snag your carpet or clothes when moving them. I was also happy to see that the backing to the bookcase was also wood and thicker than the usual cardboard backs you see on many similar bookcases. I set aside a few hours to put the bookcase together and was happy I did. I had my young daughter "helping" me and it took me two hours to complete the task. The slowest part was using the allen wrench on some of the tight spots. It also took a few tries for me to get the roof section put together. I didn't take time to get the angles lined up perfectly on the first try. They need to be lined up straight or the roof will look lopsided. After realizing this, it was easy to correct. I also was grateful Serta sent extra screws in the package. When adding the backing onto the bookcase, I used too many screws on one side and ended up utilizing the extras to match up the other side. All the while, my daughter was trying to put her bear to sleep behind the fence. Once finished, I was excited how tall it was. I didn't really pay attention to the measurements originally, so I was happy to have a bookcase that eliminated two smaller nightstands I was using for books in her room. This also fit all of her babies and stuffed toys that were piled into a toy bag. Therefore, I was able to get rid of three pieces of other items out of her room with this one bookcase. She now has more floor space to play. As you can see from one of my pictures, the middle shelf can fit large/tall books. The smaller top shelf has become a little playhouse for her small toys. The fenced bottom section still works great for her stuffed toys. The final look of this bookcase with all her things in it is just adorable. I wasn't sure if I would like the grey but it looks softer than white against her light purple walls. I was looking for a cute bookcase instead of the basic rectangle and that's exactly what I got. With the added bonus of it being sturdy and made well.

I really love the design of this shelving system. I love the little fence along the bottom to create a space for holding toys. And the top two shelves are great for books and toys. I love the peak on top to create a house look. The color on the one I have is gray. The finish is nice. Smooth and easy to wipe clean. The wood is MDF. Putting the shelves together was a little bit of a pain. I had a four-year-old “helper” and it took about an hour and a half. The instructions had diagrams, but I wish they had a little more detail. Since you must build it on its side, you should be careful you’re putting the cross supports facing the correct way. It was not mentioned in the directions, and now that mine is together, I have two little holes on two of the cross supports facing out instead of facing back. My mistake, I should have paid better attention to it when building, but I can’t unscrew all the screws holding the backing and one of the sides to fix. Also, when I was screwing in the backing screws, one of them split the edge of the MDF, (see picture.) I didn’t overtighten, it just split as it was going in. The top point of the shelves doesn’t line up squarely. All the holes you need are predrilled, so the predrilled holes weren’t in correct position for the top to align squarely. See picture. Overall, now that it’s together, it’s a really cute system, it is sturdy and I see it lasting for quite a long time.

I’ve ordered a lot of furniture in my life and put together some cheap and expensive furniture. For the price, I really think the quality of the pieces are solid. My complaint is with the glue that was put on the fence pieces. It’s like a 1st grader slopped orange glue all over the front. Walmart offered to completely return for a refund or a partial refund. I chose a partial refund and I ended up painting all of the bookcase and putting some peel and stick wallpaper on the back and it looks super cute in my daughter’s nursery.

I received my Serta Happy Home Storage Bookcase in the grey color. I believe white and dark chocolate are also available. Of course I had to put it together. That was somewhat of a challenge for me, but everything was clearly marked and the instructions were easy enough. It also came with extra hardware, such as screws, etc. which is always nice. It is a heavy piece of furniture, not light or flimsy. It weighs about 60 lbs including the box. The only thing I will mention when putting it together is, do not over tighten the screws. I did on one and it went slightly through the top. It comes with a strap to attach to a wall for safety also. The design is so pretty to me. I love the little picket fence look on the front and the gabled roofline on top to look like a little house. It has a back so that items do not fall or push out the back. It has two fixed shelves, plus an open bottom area for larger items. This could be used for a kids room or even a lake house to put all of your fishing deco on! I even thought about using it in the garage for hats and flip flops, etc. It looks nice in any area. I would certainly recommend this to anyone wanting something that looks nice and is a little different. It is large and will hold a lot of stuff! Assembled dimensions: 36.5"L x 12.25"W x 45"H

Super cute bookcase. I didn't give it 5 starts because the holes that were premade were not all correct. The back wasn't sturdy. I think it's good for its price just a few issues.

It's larger than I expected and very cute, but beware that the wood is SOFT and you can easily create a dent if you even remotely come close to screwing it too tight. Ours now has dents on the outside pieces because we wanted to make sure it was tight which seems logical for a kids room bookcase.

Bought this about a month ago. Right out the box pieces were damaged and I didn’t want to go thru the hassle of sending back and getting another with damaged pieces. So dealt with and moved on. When screwing the base, the base started showing as if the screw was breaking thru the wood. Instructions are pretty detailed. You can get this thing together in 15 mins, just be careful putting together and watch for damaged pieces. Overall shelf is solid and can fix several items.
