It's a great ultralight for the price, ( Talking about the rod itself not reel )awesome bend at the tip of the rod. But I personally switched out the reel. It's a little too small for me and kinda cheap so I put on a 2500 series reel on it but other than that great purchase!
1st go ahead and take the Berkeley line off and throw it in the garbage it's beyond junk. Then put some 10lb test Siverthread on it, and you're in business. These little reels throw really good, if you're not careful you will definitely over throw it until you get used to it. you'll definitely need to use the emergency brakes. (hand to stop the line) From the very 1st time using them they are really really fun catching bream, bass, catfish, and a turtle all off of crickets. very flexible rod that makes it that much more fun. These 7ft rods acts exactly how the 4ft 6inch rod versions do. A ton of fun especially whenever your 8 year's old stepson catches a 2lb channel catfish on the little rod and reel combo, and your girlfriend catching a 2.5lb channel on the 7ft rod combo. The kit was cheaper than the rod combo by itself.
The rod is very sensitive. Shakespeare ultralight rods in this price range are worth every penny. The reel was great until the bolt fell off the handle. Replaced the reel with a zebco 33 ultralight and the kids love this rod!! It's worth the $25
They make a good rod and reel combo. No problem with the ultralight rod and reel combo. It fits perfectly on my horizontal side mounted rod holder
My son likes to go fishing he has some rods, but he wants this one because is very light, practical and fast to cat small fish. He definitely he said is a good one to keep if you like fishing.
combo has great action. I've caught a few bass under 2 pounds and it's quite a war. I would recommend this to anyone that's looking at it. It's a really nice set up and I'm looking forward to taking it on a float trip and catching small mouths
Rod action is light, not UL, but decent quality. Reel has a thin wire bail and not the best, but functional. Accessories are also cheap but wasn't expecting much. Overall, satisfied with set up for the price.
Rod was fine, but it says ultralight and the rod that comes with the trout kit is apparently light action which wasn't what I was really looking for. I have several of these in the 5 foot version and they are great little combos for the price. I really wanted a longer ultralight version, but I will keep the light action one to play around with. Beware if you are looking for the 7 foot ultralight don't order the trout kit.
rod and reel would be great but mine came without a reel handle, don't order it from Walmart they'll deliver it without a box it fits in with no handle and then expect you to have a box big enough just laying around to pack it up in and send it back for a replacement.
The package was destroyed and the rod was broke at the tip Walmart could do better and do a better package job
