Sharp comes through again

Ann E. May 28, 2026

I've always had Sharp microwave ovens. And now have another good one. ... but be aware: the roller glide under the glass tray SNAPS in and out.. a fine improvement but so surprising I opened a help ticket on it (I couldn't get the roller glide out of the oven!!)... only to finally find (with a neighbor's help) that it SNAPS out, unlike the past ones which just lifted out. I was afraid of breaking it so did not TUG on it, but you have to TUG on it.

Good so far with one detraction

Anonymous October 21, 2025

I am happy with this microwave. I had an earlier model of it. One thing I don't like is that when I open the door, it doesn't clear a normal size plate in front of the door and microwave. The old one did.

Good basic microwave

KentB October 31, 2025

Good basic microwave with useful features. Cons, comparing to my previous microwave, are that the buttons are hard to push, the door open button is hard to push, and the turntable does not return to the front after heating.

Good basic microwave.

Ready Teddy November 2, 2025

Good basic microwave. Small foot print. Heats food quickly. Pops popcorn and cooks potatoes well. Mid price range. Seems to be a good quality, well built microwave. Replaced a three year old, failed Whirlpool microwave. Hope it lasts!

I have been using this microwave oven for two months and it functions well so far as expected. Also its design is so sleek and beautiful. I recommend it to anyone.

Great Microwave for a small kitchen

N Harada July 2, 2025

I like the sharp, clean look of the white microwave oven, it’s the perfect size for my small kitchen. The simple operation of the touch pad is perfect for an old schooler like me. A couple of reviews stated that it only lasted 23 months before it stopped working, so am hoping that I have better luck.

Best little microwave ever

Another Happy Customer July 2, 2025

Love this little microwave. The first one I had lasted almost 16 years! Tried a different, fancier one with all the bells and whistles, and that barely made 6 years. Glad I found this one. Has just the right amount of power. My veggies come out with the most perfect texture. Very happy with this!

Another quality microwave from Sharp

Bruce5m June 17, 2025

Another quality microwave from Sharp. Pros Quality build Powerful Silver cabinet instead of black brightens the kitchen and looks better with stainless steel door Bright LED interior light You can turn off beeping Cons LED display is way too bright, should be dimable Although can turn off beeping, it would be better with volume choices and choce between button pressing and when timer ends

A solid microwave with all the features I need!

TexasBill June 5, 2025

This is a good solid microwave. It replaced a GE microwave which we had for 15 years, but died. The Sharp microwave is smaller and less wattage than the GE, but this baby cooks better than the GE in my opinion. The noise is minimum, and the output is great. All my cookware fits in it which makes it that much better!

Another winner for Sharp

Batuche July 13, 2025

Sharp SMC1161KW Microwave review We repurposed our 20-year-old Sharp microwave is 1.2 cu ft and 1200 Watts, thus needed a new microwave oven, but Sharp no longer makes a microwave with those specs. We didn’t want to go larger in exterior size and the dimensions of this model are almost identical to our more interior spacious and powerful older model. At 1.1 cu ft and 1000 Watts this was the closest match we could find and so far, it seems to perform close in power to our 1200-watt model. While the Sharp brand doesn’t appear prominently in generic internet searches for microwave ovens, we sought the Sharp brand out because of the performance of our previous Sharp. This model is much quieter than our old model and while our old model had more features, this one has all we need plus most functions are similar enough where the learning curve is minor. While we would have preferred a white interior we will probably like this dark one as well once we’re used to it. The touch sensitivity on the control panel is light and easy - about the same as our old model. As others have reported, the display light is probably twice as bright as it needs to be, but not a deal breaker for us, and the child lock is easily disabled. We do have a few minor gripes: 1. I’m 6’ tall and standing 2 feet or less away from this microwave which sits on a standard countertop height. The digital display is recessed far enough far enough behind the black frame cutout that it becomes unreadable. The black frame blocks the top edge of the digits so I cannot distinguish a number 7 from a number 1, for example. I need to either back up beyond arm’s length or bend over to see the entire display correctly. 2. We haven’t tried all the settings yet, but POPCORN immediately threw us a curve ball. Whereby our old model simply had one auto setting for POPCORN, this one has three fixed settings based on ounces per bag: 1.75, 3.0, and 3.5. So of course, the first bag of popcorn we tried was 2.4 oz. (there’s no setting for that), so we used the 3.0 oz. setting, and the bag popped more thoroughly (fewer old maids) than our old model without burning, so we’ll see what happens. 3. The carousel on our old model conveniently made one rotation every 10 seconds making the warming of a cup of coffee simple, as the cup handle returned exactly to the position it started in making removal so easy. I haven’t figured out the rotation timing of this model yet, but it’s different enough so that the 10 second rotation no longer applies, and the reheated coffee cup usually ends up at the rear of the carousel with the handle facing away. We have only had this microwave a few weeks, so we’ll attempt to publish further likes/dislikes as they appear. If this model lasts as long as our old one, which continues running, we’ll be happy campers. Recommended
