I wanted a way to use my favorite Bluetooth earbuds with my "dumb" TV, and this little gadget made that happen. I bought this Bluetooth audio transmitter / receiver after being dissatisfied with a pair of fairly expensive Sony RF400 "headphones for TV". They work OK but have a lot of static and a very short range, have so-so sound, plus are heavy over-ear "cans", so my ears get warm after a while. Meh. Surely there is a way to hook my favorite BT earbuds to my BT-less TV? Well, there is. The basic idea is that you hook this box to the 3.5mm (1/8 inch) headphone jack on your TV (or any other device with a headphone jack but without Bluetooth or with problematic Bluetooth). Switch it into "TX" transmit mode, plug its USB cable into a charger, hold down the power button until the status lights blink, and it is ready to connect to Bluetooth earbuds and send audio to them from your TV. Getting the earbuds to pair with the gadget is a little tricky, it took a few tries of putting my earbuds into pairing mode (after disconnecting them from my phone, natch) and holding down the power button on the gadget to put it in pairing mode. But they eventually found each other and paired. And after that, they "just worked". Audio sounds great, as good as from my phone. Range is great, I can wander all over my home without losing connection. Since the gadget is USB-powered, there's no worrying about charging its battery. One important note: Your earbuds can't control your TV like they can your phone. So you can't pause the current show or change channels. You can control the audio volume (not the volume on the TV, but the volume on the gadget--so yes, you have two places to set volume, which can be confusing). When I turned up both the TV volume all the way and the gadget volume all the way, my poor earbuds got EXTREMELY LOUD and distorted. But for someone who is hard-of-hearing, that might be a big plus. When you press pause/play on your earbuds, they mute/unmute the sound. Very impressive for such an inexpensive device, especially considering that it works better than the pricy Sony headphones. Recommended, except for the tricky Bluetooth pairing, which might be frustrating for some less technical folks.
Good directions, nice selection of all the adapters, couldn't get the power plug on the unit to plug in all the way but it works. Easy to hook up to. Great value.
This transmitter/receiver works great. It allows me to use my blue tooth headphones with my two older Roku TVs. I feel that even if someone doesn't consider themselves necessarily electronically inclined the directions that came with the device will assist people to figure out how to connect the device to an older smart TV properly using the provided attachments that came with the device.
Very nice product, works well and at a great price!
great purchase for the price I highly recommend
Does a pretty good job of connecting my Bluetooth earbuds to my home theater. However, there is a slight delay when watching video, so the mouths don't quite match up with the dialogue. Not too bad. I later figured out that I could connect to the Roku app on my phone for Bluetooth with streaming video from the Roku box, and there's no lag with that.
There's no digital output and the D/A converters are as cheap as they come. But if you're simply trying to add Bluetooth capabilities to an old system that was merely average in its day, it does exactly what you want at a decent price.
Arrived with very little instructions on how to use this. I can't figure out how to connect my Bluetooth headphones to this after I have it connected to my tv.
I had to use my own aux cable
I am using it as a transmitter. It was easy to set up. The unit is noisy and sounded like there is a constant static. As such I can hardly recommend it.
