I do not believe that this cat tree can handle a 33 pound cat, which is a very large cat anyway. My older males are big boys and after owning this cat tree for just a short time, their favorite spot is already leaning. I'd estimate the one that uses it the most weighs about 20 pounds and it can hardly handle his weight. It was quite difficult to put together, and I probably would have given up if my boyfriend hadn't stepped in and put it together. There were carpet pieces everywhere after it was finally together. The materials are cheap and unstable, which is admittedly common for cat trees, but means they won't last long. What made it worth buying is that all four of the cats do seem to enjoy it. With most cats being so picky and often enjoying boxes more than the expensive things that come in them, I wouldn't recommend it. I wouldn't personally recommend most cats trees though because I've bought several for my cats and it's been a mixed bag of whether or not they use them at all.
