The tuner does a good job, far better than my Tivo. The channels are much clearer. This information might be useful to someone, so here goes... I'm using this as a tuner for a Plex Media Server running on a Raspberry Pi model 4B with 4 GB of RAM. So far, it is working very well and I'm impressed.
Great product. Finally cut the cord and pleased with the experience thus far. Can be a little finicky at times with Plex (probably a plex issue), but the online community of cord cutters is helpful in navigating issues.
Worked well out of the box and easy setup. If you have over the air stations nearby I would recommend this as the best solution for local channels. It works well with the ONN 4K streaming box
I use the tuner with Plex. Just plug it into the network, connect the antenna and it works
Very convenient. Now I have TV anywhere in WiFi range
Awesome cable cutter option to record and rewind live OTA TV.
This tuner makes it really convenient to move away from cable or services like YouTube TV. it gives you one central point to pick up your local channels and makes them available to any device on your home network. this is great for people who don't have good reception where some of their tvs are or who just don't want an antenna attached to every tv. The HDHomeRun app that's available on Android, Windows, Roku, and FireTV(but not on Samsung's tv platform) works well for core functionality, but has some questionable UI decisions and some features that just don't work, like favorites. if you want DVR functionality you do have to pay $35 per year or use something like a Plex server. as a workaround to not having the app on Samsung, you can at least access the channel streams as the TV will see it as a local media server. each channel has its own "file" and they stream fine.. just no guide or real ui to speak of. You can also grab these steam urls in the device's web interface for use with VLC if you want to watch on a computer without having the HDHR app installed. One negative i have to mention is that atsc 3.0 support is just about useless, and had I'd known that, i would have opted for one of the cheaper models that don't support it. In my market, i have access to five 3.0 channels. 3 of them are encrypted which the HDHR seemingly does not support. the other two are only really accessible through the HDHR app. Plex gives me an error when i try to watch them, and Samsung's media streaming will play the video feed but doesn't support the audio format, so no sound. both of these channels have atsc 1.0 streams that work just fine. Finally, i have to mention that the listing for this product mentions viewing content over wifi, and while that's technically true, it's misleading in that the HDHR itself does not seem to have any Wi-Fi support. you MUST have ethernet and power availability at the location where you wish to set it up. Overall i think it accomplishes most of what it should and gives you a lot of options for watching local television. The price isn't too bad when i consider that I'm going to save almost $90/month on YouTube tv.
The setup directions are all but lacking and the feature od ASCT 3.0 is currently not that useful. This is an expensive box that then charges you for DVR service and wont allow you to do your own DVR, there are cheaper options. It is nice that I can use just 1 antenna for the whole planet, but not enough for the price. Granted their annual fee is low compared to TiVo, the whole point of OTA is pay once and not loked into monthly billing insanity.
I'm giving this 2 stars. This tuner is expensive and for such and expensive device, they should include a 1 GB NIC instead of a 100 MB.... common! Don't be such penny pinchers especially when someone is paying $200 for something like this. ATSC 3 is brain farting and no indication of where things are going. In other words, this is too expensive for what you are getting. I knew it was a bit expensive, and I looked the other way because it had 4 tuners, and I thought maybe I might use 3 of the tuners at one time. Hasn't happened yet, but who knows. When I found out this only has a 100 mb port, I realized how overpriced and greedy companies can get. I honestly doubt the 100 MB port could handle all for tuners running at the same time, especially if 2 of those tuners were to use ATSC3's maximum possible data traffic.
Difficult to set up. Did not reveive many channels that my TV set receives over the air. Kept getting error messages in app. No mention of a fee for DVR service with this device.
