I chose it for decorating my mantel. it's cute and can be used for light in an outage ,though I have not used it for light yet. the directions say use only lamp oil .

Having light is essential in every situation
You never know when having a kerosine lamp will come in handy. No batteries are needed just fill adjust wick and light.

Warnings
Silver, not bronze like in the photo. Seems like this item has been recalled and that's why it's so cheap. It came with multiple warnings, more than a standard, functional oil lamp. I would not trust the safety of this for use.
