This is a classy way to handle a mess. It keeps the odors in and the compost out of sight. It uses (and comes with) bags to make it an even cleaner option. It can sit on the counter or be hung with included accessories. It's sturdy, large enough but not too big, and it's classy. I love it!
A little pricey but def great quality, well built and very useful
Don't know why I waited so long to purchase. . . I'm so satisfied. This has made composting in NYC so delightful. I don't like a lot of "stuff" in my place-so having another trash can taking up floor space for composting became annoying very quickly (I've had the prior small stainless steel compost can for over 10 yrs, but only started using it daily when composting became the law in NYC) I've attached this little guy to the front of my two-bin step-can and it's perfect. Yes, the compost caddy is not regulated only to side trash bin attachment.
Perfect design and size, easy clean and fits perfectly on my counter. No odors. I like that I also have the option to attach to my SIMPLEHUMAN trash can. HIGHLY recommend.
First off, it is stunning on the counter. It deserves to be on the counter where it is most helpful. It doesn't look like a compost bin. It works well. No odors have been detected. I love it!
I like the inner liner, which keeps the stainless steel shell clean. I also like that I can hang it on the side of the Simplehuman trashcan. One less thing to stash beneath the sink or set on the counter. . I just wish it was bigger—a few days of coffee grounds and the trimmings from vegetables/fruit are enough to fill it.
I needed a tight compost receptacle for my kitchen counter, as my previous one was an invitation to sugar ants apparently! This compost caddy is the answer. It's not only beautiful, but it is large enough to hold multiple days worth of food scraps and coffee grounds without getting smelly. And no ants in sight! Highly recommend.
I had seen this Simplehuman 1 Gallon Compost Caddy on my phone as being a top-rated item for the home. Although I do like it, I am not using it as a compost bin but rather a place to put small food items such as apple cores, etc. for everyday prep items to be placed ultimately in my weekly garbage. I think a one and one-half or two-gallon size would be even better! Thanks!
Compared to other compost containers this one is more expensive but has less features. For example, the bin on the inside doesn't have a handle so you can lift it out easily. And apparently they indicate you should use bags but most compost containers should not need to use bags inside, and the bags needed are wasteful in manufacturing, shipping, etc. Also on the outside there is no handle so that you can lift it and move it to a different part of your counter. The trash hanger add-on does not work for most trash bins that people already have because the lip on the hanger is very small. So this our simplehuman is sitting on the counter and when we need to pull it towards us to put things in it, there is no handle to do so and you end up grabbing the top or the side of it, but then the top comes off in your hand because it is not latched down at all. A nice handle on top, similar to what other less-expensive compost containers have, that folds back, would have easily prevented this. Lastly, it only comes in metallic finishes, and people are going towards more organic looks in their kitchen like ceramic or wood tones, which many people prefer but simple human does not offer.
Looks nice but poorly sealed lid and we got tons of fruit flies right away. Switched to another bin with a carbon filter and tighter lid and no issues
