used it to repair dress hem, speed steady and noise not loud or intrusive. have not tried it on jeans yet but that was reason for purchase of heavy duty. easy to thread as always from singer. outer case is plastic compared to my older heavy duty which was metal. small basic accessories kit included. clear bobbin cover so you can see how much thread is left which is super nice. limited number of stitches but will handle just fine for 99pct of stitching needs. have always been a supporter of singer for many years. not disappointed at all with purchase.
I recently took up sewing a few weeks ago. My first machine was a Janome, it was terrible. then after reading many reviews about this singer machine I went to walmart and purchased one. Setup was super easy and fast. The minute I turned it on I fell in love, this machine is super awesome. For the price I did not expect it to work as great as it does!
What a powerful machine! I just got around to using it. Hurricane Irma knocked out our power and Singer has been staring at me for weeks. Backstitch is so smooth that you don't need to stop the machine to reverse. Feed dogs pull like sled dogs on slippery flag nylon. No tangling of bobbin thread as one review said. Looking forward to using on many projects. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
It works perfectly for denim you just need to drop the bottom that helps move your sewing material along. I just took it out of the box, threaded my bobbin, then threaded the top thread and success. I've finish a child's blanket. Patched the Levi Jean bag for my sister. Works fabulous. Of course I adjusted the thread to the space I desired. ×Note keep a cloth under your need when you either put away or move it. Keep needle down on the cloth you sew on to check the correct sewing. Thank you for the speedy delivery.
On 11-23-16 I return my 4423 as I had had it only 2 wks and among several problems, it was Frozen. I EXCHANGED the 4423 and I wrote in my review that I hoped I had just gotten one that was a lemon and I really wanted this particular machine for the heavy work I do for my vendor booth sales. Today, based upon the second machine, I would like to revise that review. After getting it home I went back to square one and went through the instructions to be sure I didn't miss anything, Then, I also went online to Kevinsews YouTube video and viewed his Basic Singer 4423 video which also helped to correct some problems I had with machine #one. What did we ever do without the YouTube videos? The manual just didn't cover some of the issues. I am happy to say I am very happy with the Singer 4423 (second machine) and except for one problem, I intend to keep it. That One Problem is an electrical 'buzz' under the metal plate, and that could be a Real Problem. If it 'bites' me good back it goes in a hurry; as it is it is a tingling sensation. So, because of that I am giving the machine a 4 rating this time. Yes, I would recommend it to a friend - but with the instruction to look up Kevinsews YouTube video for real concise operating and cleaning instructions as the manual leaves out several needed instructions.
When I was visiting my friend who had just had a baby, I used her sewing machine to make a 'ring sling' style baby carrier for her. It was this model: the Singer 4423 Heavy Duty sewing machine. I was very impressed with the sturdy metal construction. The bobbin winder was fast and smooth. The needle threader is a real time saver. This machine runs much quieter than the one I have at home, so it really was a pleasure to use. The stitching was even when doing a straight stitch. However, when I tried to do a decorative stitch, the outcome was not as nice as I had hoped. I had to rip the stitches out and redo them. Overall, I really like this heavy duty machine. I was pleased with how the baby sling turned out, and my friend started using it right away.
The machine is very sturdy works great but i did not give it a five star because the light on the machine is horrible ...you can hardly see to sew I have to purchase another light to put next to the machine to sew. i have older singer machines, and they have perfect light ...why am i paying so much for a machine with no proper lighting.
I had bought the 44S last year from Walmart, and I sold it online this month because I bought the 4423. Whereas last summer I was able to purchase the 44S in person at the store, there's been a crazy in-demand of sewing machines now because everyone wants to make face masks and sewing is popular again all of a sudden. Anyway, I recommend getting the product at Walmart because I had a difficult time with Singer, and although I like the brand, I didn't like their customer service. I knew if I had any problems with it if I hot it from Walmart, I'd be able to return it hassle-free. Well, I'm taking a star off because this is the exact same machine as the 44S, and after doing research I realize all the 44 series (except for the 4411, which only has 11 stitches) are the same even though they're priced differently. This of course is Singer's fault though, not Walmart's... I rather like the look of the 44S vs. the 4423 though (and it cost less too), even though they both have the same motor.
I gave it 3 stars because I didn't receive all the parts nor where there any instructions in the box so I returned it for that reason but I've readed other reviews on it which where great so I would think that it would be a great machine
The sewing machine I bought was clearly used/repackaged. Also, the box had been retaped/the box was damaged and so was the machine. The website stated it was new. Clearly it was not new. Returned the machine and purchased one directly from singer. The packaging on the one from singer reflected a brand new machine. Would appreciate some kind of compensation for the trouble and disappointment regarding my purchase.
