Hobbiest woodworker. I've been using my old Sears router for many years (and still do) and my family thought this would be a great upgrade and they were correct. Good weight, many options and accurate. I haven't figured all it's tricks yet, but I can tell this will do what ever I need. - And later I did invest in the Skil router table. Great combo.
I've only had it a month but so far so good. Great value
The SKIL router has many features and is super easy to use. It was absolutely worth the money and I would highly recommend this product.
Somewhat newbie to woodwork and a definite newbie to routing. Watched and read many reviews on this router before purchasing and I'm glad I did my homework..I LOVE it!!! WHY? Well, like I said, tools scare me at my age, so I wanted to be comfortable. I think I watched 20 YT videos and read hundreds of reviews..So I had it ALL figured out...AT least I thought so!!! Let me be clear though. I have already done a few rouned edge projects and made a MOBILE board with T-tracks in it. BUT..my questions is more technical and maybe somewhere here can help me understand. Here's my question: I read the manual on "how to" do the depth adjustment, which was confusing using the turrets method. IF I want to do a 3/8" dado for my T-track, FIRST I zero out the bit on the work piece and the depth adjustment. Then I make the slide adjust to 1/8, figuring I would do 3 passes to get to the 3/8 I needed. Every video I've watched says to just turn the turret to the next drop and proceed with your second pass etc. So, I'm no mathemetician, but doesn't 1/8 plus 1/4 = 3/8? I thought so... SO..when I was done, my cut was "a bit short of 3/8. I had to finegel a bit to get 3/8. Then I had a thought!!! Maybe, it was my bit. My bit may have been too embedded in the collet? hmmm!!! So, could that be it? could it be that easy. I did pull the collet out a tad when installing. Then I questioned myself because I had to plum the bit to the surface to zero it first??? I'm totally confused. I also noticed that the plunger did NOT go all the way down to the stop turret. I couldn't see any reason for it NOT to. I thought maybe it was me not plunging hard enough? I tried my hardness, but it just wouldn't go all the way down. If there's someone out there that could give me their two cents, I would really appreciate it. Remember!!! Even the terminology is all new to me, so please be understanding LOL :) Other than that, I felt very comfortable using both the base and plunger the first time. Setting the panel for bit/material/rpm was easy. It worked beautiful and made great cuts. Very comfortable to handle and more than enough power. Thank you for letting me babble
I've had good results from this router, using it mostly in my router table. Love the soft start, height control from above the table, solidly machined construction. Used it with some very hard hickory which it was able to sustain cutting if I worked a bite at a time and didn't try to go too fast. For the price it's a great kit. Haven't used the plunge base but it looks also to be of good quality. Glad to see Skil products stepping up to modern tool precision standard.
Excellent for the price
Solid build and good power. Did a few test runs with various bits and wood.. worked better than I expected. The dust shroud works great as did the led lights. It's my first plunge unit and it was quite easy to use. I'm a happy camper with the purchase.
First time buyer for a router, but I think the lit control panel should be moved to a side position. Better yet a fold down panel. When using this router with a router table the user can't see the screen unless a mirror is used or the router removed to make changes.
Two years almost to the day. Been running this router in various capacities from edging, to rabbeting, to slab flattening. Ran it tonight to flatten a slab (1/16” depth passes). The bit jammed and now the router is off balance and vibrates heavily. The bit wasn't even damaged. That's all it took. BTW…what do each of the bit icons in the LCD display even mean? I used the one that looks like an upside down cone…
Not happy with my router. I literally used it once and when I went to put the collet in to use it again. The collet would no longer fit down into the shank. I jumped through hoops to get a receipt from the store but was then told by you all that there was no longer a warranty. Used once. I have since ordered a new collet (not from you because you have lost my loyalty by not standing by your product). Hopefully it will work. If not, I have a big bulky paperweight that will need to go in the garbage. It's a shame because the router works and spins, lots of power.
