This is a great little tool for laminate flooring, its smooth, easy to use, perfect for what I bought it for, the only draw back is you need to buy special blades that can be hard to find, 4 3/8" blades with 3/4" shank. I suggest Walmart carry them Skil only.....and post it with the saw. This is a great tool!
This is a handy companion to any flooring job. It is cumbersome to change between mitre and straight cuts, but for the price point it's a great buy.
1100 sq. foot flooring project at home that I decided to undertake myself. This saw was a real benefit to have available and got used plenty. Mainly used for rips but some for cross-cuts as well. Terrific saw .... works perfectly and saved tons of time.
This flooring saw made laying a vinyl floor so much easier. I would highly recommend this item to anyone who laysm down flooring!
Best tool for the job. It is right there with you. Good quality from Skil. Only negatives are it is quite loud in a small room, makes a lot of saw dust and contrary to advertising the dust ejector does not fit any one of the three vacuums I have. Makes very accurate cross and rip cuts on plank flooring. I would recommend this product to tradesmen and DIYers.
Rating should probably be 4.5 Stars since the only (trivial) complaint would be the swapping of the fence from cross-cut to rip. Definitely benefits from a shop vac hook-up. Cuts with the 36 tooth blade are more than acceptable for laminate flooring, both finish side up and down. Pretty cool to be able to walk onto the job with the saw in one hand and your tool bucket in the other. (You'll want to go back for the miter saw when it comes time for the shoe mold...).
The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it's a little clunky to switch the fence between rip cuts and cross cuts, but once in place it works well. Both rips and end cuts were not exactly square, but you can make them exactly square, if you take the time to adjust the red alignment plate, just once. I installed 400 sf of engineered bamboo 3/8" flooring with just the one included blade. It will probably need a new blade for the next job.
I gave this saw only 3 stars because of some of its design. First the blade lock button is located between the inside saw body and the slide rails. This makes it difficult to hold the button "in" while trying to use the allen wrench to loosen the attaching screw. Also the blade has to be removed from the bottom of the plate. 2nd the dust shoot is an odd size and is difficult to adapt to a shop vac, but you do it works great. 3rd, the blade guard makes it hard to get to the blade if you need to use a tape measure on long cuts, a LED to light up the blade area would be a hugh help. Last, but not a saw issue, is the blade will dull pretty quick if cutting a high quality floor since these will have a really hard finish. So make sure you have at least 3 blades to do your project. What I really like about this saw is its lite weight and mounting feet that make it stable when using the saw. Also the handle mounted on/off switch is really great and the slide rail lock is mounted in front of the switch. All in all the saw is to me worth while to buy if you are doing a lot of flooring and you don't have access to a table saw and chop box. I must also state that I don't know how well it will rip a flooring plank since I have a table saw, but after using the saw I would say that it would do that just as well.
Good for what is made for - flooring - forget about anything else (except you are creative). Blades - be aware - worn very fast on laminate 12mm 3/4” arbor it is just different from others 3/4" arbor so i had to buy from them. If anyone found better blades please let us know what and where! Above reasons for which i give only 3 stars
Too hard and cumbersome removing the fence when transitioning from end cuts to rips. My shop vac hose doesn't fit in place of the dust collection bag. Need a larger end(adapter) to fit a standard diameter shop vac. I like the height of the base as a standard 2x4 can be used as a rest for the long pieces. Liked how portable it was.
