Great saw for small to medium sized projects!

Olden July 21, 2025

This is a great chainsaw! It is lightweight and so easy to handle. The battery is powerful enough to cut a 6” log and lasts for about an hour. The recharge time is quick which makes it easy to get back to work. It's so much easier to use than my gas saw!

The right tool for the job.

Tarheel June 22, 2025

The chaisaw serves my needs perfectly. It's primary use is cutting up and clearing limbs downed by storms on our residential property. I purchased a spare battery after reading other reviews. That proved to be a good decision as some more extensive cleanups may deplete one battery before completion.

Excellent purchase

Anonymous July 8, 2025

I'm so glad I got this. I swore I'd never buy a big gas chainsaw, sticking only with my little handheld and corded electric pole saw. This is so easy to handle and it does a great job cutting the downed limbs to size. It's built very well and is a joy to use.

Great cutting battery powered saw!

Logger Joe October 17, 2025

This saw is extremely handy I put it in the back of my UTV and use it to cut smaller logs and limbs that have fallen on the roads around my property.I do own a couple of large gas chainsaws for big jobs, but I love the convenience of this light and powerful 40v battery powered saw. I also have the skil pole saw, and the batteries are interchangeable.

I like this Skil better than my Makita or Stihl

anonymous June 5, 2025

Former tree climber/trimmer/arborist here... We have a lot of land and I have owned a lot of different chainsaws in my life and I am really liking this new Skil power40 one I just got. Had several tornadoes down a bunch of trees this Spring. I have used and still own some older corded chainsaws (from Sears) that keep going so I keep using them here and there. With corded ones, of course, you have to be close to an outlet to use (like near the house or out buildings). I've owned various gas chainsaws too over the decades and still have them in the shed if I need to do a lot of cutting far from the house. But over the past 10 years or so I am loving these modern battery chainsaws. Recently my 2014 Makita battery chainsaw gave out on me. I used to build new houses and remodel old ones. I also owned a computer repair shop for two decades, and now I restore classic cars. So I'm very handy with repairing just about anything. I've rebuilt gas chainsaws, but never a battery chainsaw, so I watched some vids online and was going to rebuild the Makita, but the parts are pricey and I got lazy after I saw a project farm episode on battery chainsaws and liked the look of this Skil pwer40 one I'm reviewing here. I've now owned it/used it about 6 weeks or so. So anyway, this Skil is not as powerful as my trusty Stihl gas saw, but the Skil does pretty darned good for what it is... especially if you have a couple of the 6ah batteries so you can keep swapping them out. If you have to be way out in the woods, you can bring along a small generator and keep the Skil batts recharged and swapping out all day long. Btw, I love how quiet these battery saws are. Safer for your ears and you can hear potential wood-cracking in case you unknowingly start cutting a rotten tree that could go any which way on you. Beavers never die when they down trees because they know how to listen to the tree as it gives way. I think quiet battery chainsaws can save lives by letting you hear trouble long before you have to haul as.

Good saw for the $$

Huntmup June 19, 2025

Good power, well balanced saw, kit comes with a 2.5 amp hr battery and charger. You're going to want another battery. Good value at the price point. The only negative is the blade tension system, easy to use but a standard 2 bolt system would keep the bar tighter.

Good value, easy to operate

Lee McGaan August 11, 2025

I like this chain saw very much so far. It's got plenty of power and the battery lasts quite a while. The chain bar is a bit shorter than I expected but the saw is light weight and easy to use. The instructions in the manual are not especially clear or well illustrated. Work on fleshing them out. All in all I would buy it again. A good value.

The start of a good thing

Larry A May 4, 2025

The nicest thing about this chainsaw is that you pull a trigger. No pulling a cord over and over again, or adjusting the fuel ratio. Super easy! The drawback is that the battery doesnt last as long as you would like and it shuts down in the middle of a cut. The PWRCORE 40 2.5 AH battery is just not powerful enough. I went with a smaller model because i needed a saw for smaller jobs. The PWRCORE 40 6 AH battery is available with the 18" saw, which I thought would be too big for my smaller applications. I wish that this model could use the bigger battery. Also, DO NOT let the chain cover loosen up. It's just tightening a plastic knob, so make sure that you are constantly making sure that its tight. Overall i am pleased with this purchase and would but it again. I have just about every item in the SKIL PWRCORE 40 outdoor equipment line and am satisfied with my conversion from gas powered.

Need to find more batteries but it is convenient

Turning Leaf August 13, 2025

The battery lasts only about 30 minutes before I need to recharge it. I can't find a spare battery or two at a reasonable price. Otherwise it is very convenient not needing to mix gas and oil. And it starts immediately no need to pull a cord to get it started.

Saw is great, battery is terrible!

Tom Quatratta June 28, 2025

Saw cuts through wood like a hot knife going through butter. Battery dies after 15 to 20 mins of work, then you have to wait for the battery to cool down so that you can put it in the charger (which takes about an hour to charge). So, work for 15-20 mins, then wait 1 1/2 hours to work again for 15-20 mins...over and over and over...
