Great saw! Purchased to demo a deck and has more than enough power to cut through any nail embedded boards you may run into. Much less vibration than my old Chicago Electric saw I had been using. Recommend using a good blade like Diablo with this saw to maximize effectiveness.
This Skil reciprocating saw helped me remove some overgrown shrubs. The extensive roots made it too hard of a job using a shovel and axe. The Skil saw was all I needed to cut through the roots to easily remove the shrubs. It cost me less than $100 to save an estimated $500 - $1000 to have the job done.
I've had good experiences with Skil's brand of tools and the price was reasonable. So I decided to purchase this over other brands. I did some light cutting with the saw and it was great. you could feel the 13 amp saw cutting through the 2x4s with ease. The only thing that could be troublesome in the long run is the weight of the saw. if It was to be use continually, you might have to give your wrists and arms a rest. Changing the blade was an ease. My old saw. I had to use an Allen wrench to loosen a few screws before the blade can be removed. Just that alone. It is a great upgrade from my old saw.
Plenty of power, it doesn't slow down even when taxed. Buzzkill technology works, this saw is smooth. My first use was cutting tree roots. The Skilsaw kept going yet got quite warm, nothing I felt unusual for the continuous use for a hour and half. Good price too.
Full disclosure, I've never had a reciprocating saw before. But I'm glad I started with this one. It has plenty of power, is small enough and light enough to manage easily and safely. And it made short work of the things I needed to demolish that I bought it for.
Very quiet running electric motor and reduced vibration for the price. The tool weight in my opinion may help feed the blade. The blade lock works easily. The front rubber grip is larger yet reasonably comfortable for its size. My minor complaints or concerns are no easy access caron brush caps and no hard case. A Rigid tool case fits this model nicely with a little effort.
This is my first Reciprocating Saw. Blade changes are easily preformed. Its weight would make it difficult to safely use "one handedly" unless you have strong wrists, two handed operation makes it a very useful tool in instances where other tools would not be sufficient to preform the job.
Overall, this is an excellent tool. Ergonomically good, performance good. I appreciate that I can use it for a prolonged time w/o it getting too hot where I need to handle it. I wish the blade attachment (so far, it hasn't not worked) was a little easier to use.
I've never had a full sized reciprocating saw before so have nothing to compare it to. That said, reviews I have read about its power, comfort and overall well-madeness seem accurate. I'm definitely happy with it and it's a heavy chunk of machine that I expect may last awhile. I've only used it twice for small jobs so time will tell.
Have just used it for the first time to cut up small branches for fire wood using a skill blade for that purpose. Struggled a bit to balance the saw, turn the blade lock, and insert the blade, but after that the saw did the job. A third hand would have helped. :-)
