This is my first table saw in this class of saws. Before this I had a sub $100 Ryobi 10in. and it fared well for what I needed it for but as my needs went from basic door trim and shelves to relatively complex cabinet/drawers/shelving/decking and crafts with the kids that saw showed why it was under $100. I needed a machine that I could grow into. Something that wouldn't discourage me from wanting to do the work due to its limitations. I read review after review, watched a couple dozen YouTube reviews and the like and found that the majority of people that put this Skil Saw to the test were more than satisfied. There were some that thought better of other brands in the same class but their gripes were well beyond what mattered to me. I've already completed a few projects since I got this unit including an outfeed table that this saw now sits in and I'm more than pleased with the results. There's no way I could have done them on my old saw. The design is good though I'm a bit puzzled by the angle of the mounting/anchor holes. Why they're not perpendicular at 90 degrees has me flustered. I'll have to research the why on that one. The unit is weighty but light enough to pick up with little effort. The color scheme is not flashy or bright. I really like the all around appearance. My kids say it looks like a serious machine. Which is good and I tell them it is. Some of the other units I looked at look like a tween chose the colors. If it doesn't look serious, the kids won't see it seriously. My 11 year old daughter has made a few cuts with it and now wants to make stuff with me. Very cool. So ultimately I'm a growing DIYer with kids and and a big imagination. This saw exceeds my expectations and I hope to get my kids building some things aside from my general home improvement projects.
Great saw also purchased the stand which is very stable, with leveling capability and totally portable. Soft start works well, worm drive is powerful in which ripping plywood, studs in addition to pressure treated wood is piece of cake. Right out of the box saw was true enough, but honing it in was a snap. Fence is true and remains locked during work. Miter gauge was ok sits tight but no posi stops and numbers are the same color as backround which is not easy on the eyes. I used another gauge because of this. All guards are functional. Miter, fence and push stick stow nicely. Carry handle balances well while having the ability to store unit on it's side. No issue with stock blade. I would recommend this saw.
Six months ago I purchased a Skilsaw worm drive circular saw. It ate up everything I threw at it. I've been doing a lot of projects around the house and after I fair amount of research I went with the Skilsaw worm drive table saw. The rip capacity and the fence design are outstanding. As a DIY I appreciate all the help I can get and Skilsaw products are quality.
GREAT compact table saw for Home Owners. I worked in industrial wood shops and have strict requirements. I compared several in this price category and the critical buy points were a stable, repeatable fence locking system, lightweight (<50 lbs- I store mine on a shelf), extendable rip over 24" PLUS vacuum pick up and worm gear drive preferred; good reviews. I worked in industrial wood shops and have strict requirements. This model met all my requirements! The rip fence in not only VERY stable and locks square repeatedly but the extension guide works great too for wide rips. This is the first table saw where the scale guide is accurate! Wow; after calibration, set to 3/4" and it's spot on! Only issue is sawdust makes scale hard to read. Rip fence parallel and miter setting - 90 degree stop both must be adjusted for extreme precision but it was straight forward and repeatable after completion. Love the design; straight cuts; relatively quiet; vacuum picks up everything that shoots below table (all saws kick some debris upward). The under table storage of the push stick, rip fence and miter slide well designed and easy. Love the fact that the worm drive gear case has an oil plug for future OIL changes. My old Craftsman died from lack of lubrication there and no replacement parts any longer. Register your product on-line for a 3 year warrantee. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I purchased this saw to use on the job site's I work on as a contractor. I needed something portable, well constructed and powerful, which this is plus it is easy to clean the dust off! It buzzes right through pressure treated 2x stock and even cuts well when on edge a full 3 1/2”! It is very portable as all components store right on the saw and are easy to retrieve when needed. I guess that my only complaint is getting used to carrying it with the table towards me as opposed to the base, the base is open and the miter gauge gets knocked off... not a problem! This is by far the best portable table saw for the money!
Ripping like butter! I've used it for mainly ripping 2x4 and 1x4. Haven't tried on hardwoods yet. Sensible storage for accessories. Easy to follow manual. So glad I bought this after returning a so named Herculean model from another store . The Skilsaw worked right out of box and set up was minimal and straightforward . As a diy'er it is more than I could ask for.
Nice little saw. I bought this because I wanted an integrated table saw in my assembly/work table as opposed to a giant stand-alone table saw. Haven't used it too much yet but it seems powerful. Has a slight wobble as you raise the blade, doesn't seem to effect the cut. The fence is not as true as I hoped. I wouldn't advise just setting the fence and ripping. Not a big deal for me as I have always and will always check my measurements at the front and back of the blade before each cut. Otherwise, nice features, looking forward to a lot of use with it.
I have a 30 year old Skilsaw table saw and decided to replace it with the new worm drive saw. It was between the Dewalt 7480 and the Skilsaw. I made a great choice, this is a fantastic saw for a home woodworker. The saw is very precise and a beast when it comes to ripping all kinds of wood in all thicknesses. My only complaint is that it requires some adjustments out of the box, but the instructions on how to make those adjustments are very clear in the owner's manual
This is a pretty nice saw. It bears up well under heavy use, and the separately purchased stand holds things very steady. It would be nice if the sawdust collector had a few fittings so that it could be easier to fit to existing or new hoses. The riving knife has a weird lockdown system. The first time I used it it felt like it was solid but when I turned the saw on the knife dove down into the blade and everything came to a grinding halt. Fortunately Skilsaw riving knives and Diablo blades are tough and there was no permanent damage. The saw is much louder than my old Delta, but I'm really quite happy with it.
Many good features but I had to return it. Three issues: 1. The throat plate has a wide opening making it difficult to rip a narrow piece. 2. The height wheel rotated CCW at turn on thus lowering the blade into the table as the saw operated. 3. The blade dithered in and out from the fence as the blade was raised/lowered. The deviation was about 1/64 inch. I can't live with that on a fussy cut.
