Reimagined: And It's Liver %26 Onions

FrenchyReview January 31, 2026

If you’re like me and grew up on liver and onions, you know there’s nothing quite like the taste and comfort of this old-school Southern dish. I’ve been enjoying it since childhood, and it’s always been a staple in my kitchen. This time, I decided to shake things up with Skylark Sliced Calf Liver from Walmart, and let me tell you—it’s absolutely delicious! Here’s how I made it: I soaked the liver in whipping cream for about 30 minutes to an hour to keep it extra tender. Then, after coating it with my go-to breading, I fried it in oil with a touch of duck fat for that rich flavor. The onions? I caramelized them just enough to bring out their natural sweetness before mixing them back in with the liver. For a modern twist, I served this classic over a bed of quinoa instead of the usual rice and paired it with some homemade kimchi on the side. The whole meal was hearty, satisfying, and packed with protein—and Walmart’s in-home service made getting everything I needed super convenient. If you want a taste of nostalgia with a new spin, Skylark Sliced Calf Liver is a must-try. Highly recommend!

Good quality for liver lovers.

rockinroll65 March 1, 2026

Assuming you like liver this is a good value product. It thaws easily. The packaging is easily opened. The thickness of the liver is perfect for baked liver with caramelized onions. The amount provided is great for a couple r possibly 3 folks with enough side dishes. The liver has been veined and is dependably tender. The packaged convenience in the freezer makes dinner a quick meal. From freezer to defrost in warm water to draping the liver over onions in a baking dish and cooking to finishing in the oven can be accomplished in about an hour.

This calves liver was absolutely delicious. I fried it up with some onions today, and it was tender, juicy, and very flavorful. It's also a great bargain at this price. It tasted very fresh, and the color was good. No gristle, and not veiny. This was my first purchase, but i will be buying it regularly from now on, since my doctor said i need more iron.

This is a fabulous buy. I buy it to make liver jerky for my dog makes wonderful treats is healthy and very inexpensive. No poisons in it. Just sprinkle it with oregano and bake it on 180 to 200 for about five hours covered with parchment paper and you cut it up in pieces it’s a wonderful treat for your dog. I’m so happy I can get it from Walmart. It’s a good price and it’s about as healthy as you can getwonderful deal.

Skylark Sliced Calf Liver

Gertrude June 4, 2025

This calf liver was all that I expected. As a child, we had calf liver and onions quite often from a farmer's meat store and this reminded me of those meals.

Good for pets not humans

abqred4554 November 6, 2025

I recommend it for dog treats but not for humans. When you pick up the package, it looks like four nice slices of liver. When you open the package, it's a bunch of slivers of liver stuffed into the package in a way that makes is look like large slices. When you pull them out, you get a bunch of long, skinny, thin pieces of liver with a lot of veins. I had to cut them into smaller chunks to make them a manageable size for pan frying, also to get the chewy bits out of it. The flavor was good, but it required a lot of labor to get them into a cookable state. They would be better for liver treats where you're blending it up to make a batter you can pour into a pan and bake.

I always order fresh liver because I only use 4 oz at a time as I live alone. It comes frozen every time and I have said "no substitutes!" That means I have to let it thaw out and then refreeze it again. Not good! That's my only issue. The meat itself is good

I haven't had liver this bad in a very long time. This brand is usually very good. This package was full of pieces. There was lots of sinew. Very stringy and tough,

Inedible

Donna March 12, 2026

This liver was absolutely inedible! It is supposed to be cleaned but had so much tendon running through it that it could not be trimmed away. I had to throw it away. Very disappointing.

Worst liver ever

Audrey March 5, 2026

It was terrible. I never got this before that it was bad. Prepared as I always do and it was that tough we couldn't cut it, let alone chew it. We ended up having to throw it away.
