My gelding is not very tall, but he is certainly stocky and has thick legs, which makes booting a challenge. It has not been an easy task to find boots that work for him, but these fit the bill! Unlike newer SMBs, these are not form-fitting, so they are perfect for his legs. Not only are these SMB IIs economical, they are also easy to put on, and can be hosed off after use. Very happy with this purchase!
I have a draft cross whose hooves could be a bit bigger to support his body. I bought 4 SMBs to support his tendons after noticing some tendon selling in one front leg this summer. I started using SMBs 20 years ago, and I am very happy with the performance and function of the updated SMBS. I fox hunt him in these boots, as well as hack out through challenging terrain and use them for ring work. The boots hold up to mud, water crossings and the usual bush-wacking. Highly recommend this product.
These are some of the best boots. I play polocrosse in them and own a set for my TB eventer when we hack or i need extra boots. I have owned one pair for SEVEN years and they still are in working condition. My horse hits his legs in the back so the tabs are now frayed but they still fit snugly and securely on him even through all the pushing and shoving of seven years of polocrosse and eventing. They saved my horse's legs from being injured, we have a hole through the neoprine on the tendon side (still fully fuctional with the hole due to the ouside fabric not being ripped) from where another horse accidentally stepped on Diablo's leg. These are amazing boots, but they shouldnt be used for XC because they absorb water and shouldnt be used in a sand arena because they trap sand inside and rub the horse's legs.
I got my first set of Pro. Choice boots for my TB about 18 years ago. He was off the track and recovering from knee surgery. I was so pleased with the support and protection these boots offered, it wasn't long until I got a pair for his hind legs too. The originals lasted a LONG time, even with heavy use. The velcro does wear faster than the rest of the boot, but Pro. Choice will replace it at a very reasonable price. My horse is now 23, and I'm convinced that these boots are largely responsible for keeping him sound all these years. The boots do pick up some water, but I've never lost one or had one slip because of it, even in deep mud. (They're meant to fit tight and will slip if put on too loosely.) Sand will work its way up underneath them, and they aren't very breathable, so you need to remove them after 3 hours to let the horse's legs "air out." However, for me at least, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks, and I wouldn't use anything else.
Looking for a boot with extra support and protection for my Thoroughbred gelding. I normally school him in dressage with a lot of circles and lateral work in all three gaits. After a couple of rides I can say I and really satisfied with my purchase. My gelding is 16.3 hands and he fits perfectly in the mediums. I also got charcoal grey and the color is just gorgeous.
I bought these for my QHx to add some support because of unexplained stiffness that baffles my vet and farrier in one of his front legs. With one ride I could see a difference in his movement, and he seemed much more comfortable. 4+ months later, his stiffness is gone and we have the okay from the vet! I will definitely be purchasing these again! Also, it helps to put on the first two straps, then re-tighten them, and then tighten the bottom two.
I am very happy I waited for these to come back in stock. The fit is great and the wine color is awesome on my gruella horse.
Happy with the purchase. Was suggested by a trainer for one of my horses. Seems to provide him with good support. He thinks he's a barrel horse now!
These boots replaced a very sad looking pair of fleece lined boots and are just great. The 4 velcro straps ensure that you can fit the boots exactly as you want them. The sizing is generous so I could probably have gone with small instead of medium, but overall I am very happy.
I bought these for my geldings hind legs. He has dropped fetlocks so measuring was important [and I did it wrong, thanks for exchanging Smartpak!]. I finally figured out to use a piece of duct tape and wrap it around his ankle and then measure that. Anyway, these boots fit decent, though a really good fit is really dependent on taking the time to do them up, then redo the velcro tighter. Yes every time, even after they are broken in. These will be great for wet weather when I want his legs to stay clean/dry.
