Since I've purchased these glasses I've been wearing these flying. I figured the tech and transition would help with the transition for low to high intensity sunlight that can occur in a cockpit. I was absolutely right. These glasses have never done me wrong in the cockpit. The transition works unnoticed and makes a noticeable difference in eye fatigue after long flights. Holy grail of sunglasses for any pilot from ATP to weekend fun definitely worth every penny. P. S. SMITHS y'all should definitely market this lense technology to the aviation industry. I hunt and fish as well. Fishing is ok but use for hunting has been as phenomenal as my experience with them in the cockpit.
These sunglasses worked great for both skiing or fishing. I have used them non stop for a few years now and unfortunately, the rubber on the back end of the glasses has split. I do highly suggest these, I wore them at work, winter backcountry, and fly fishing in the summer.
Great experience I bought them because I got a tin and these helped me live agin for far cheaper than what I would have paid for prescription at the doctor. I do need help getting replacement lenses but they don't seem to have them for the embark
Why don't you provide the VLT for the different lenses anymore? I was about to buy this but I couldn't remember which lens that had the VLT range I want.
I now have several pairs of Embark Matte Black | ChromaPop Glacier Photochromic Copper Blue Mirror and one Embark Matte Black with Black Lenses. Plus one pair of Smith Venture Matte Black with Matte Black | ChromaPop Glacier Photochromic Copper Blue Lenses. These glasses are awesome! The Embark fit my face perfectly! The Venture fit my wife better. The Photochromic Copper Blue Lenses are outstanding. Great visual emphasis in low as well as intense light. And, the ChromaPop color filtration works great. The easily removable side shields are also handy, so long as you don't misplace them. I'm looking forward to getting these out into the truly winter conditions to see how they really perform in sub-freezing conditions! Otherwise, I love 'em, and they worked great for me in the So Cal heat during the past couple of months. Highly recommended.
Best glasses I've ever had. Love the side shields, got them for extra protection on the glaciers/low angle Alaskan winter sun but have quickly realized they are almost indispensable now for driving/fishing/hiking/golfing ect. The optical clarity (I had no idea the extreme difference of straining to look through a cheaper lens as opposed to a quality one until now…. ) and scratch resistance of the actual glass lenses are totally worth the extra cost.

I've always had excellent sunglasses--meaning superb optical performance registering the scene in front of me AND I liked the way I looked wearing them. I keep my sunglasses until they can't be repaired or I lose them. My last pair, Maui Jim's, I had for seven years, so I was kinda giddy when I lost them. I looked around and chose the Smith Embark. I have other Smith products so was confident they'd be excellent. And they are. At any elevation they make the world a better looking place (and I like how I look :-). But I just lost a side shield and am looking for a replacement. Anyone out there know where I can get one? My only recommendation is for Smith to give you two sets. May be a mea culpa on their part, but it also would be a good look, lookin' out for their customers who buy their expensive stuff. You read these reviews, Smith? Where can I get a replacement side shield?
I've owned a few pairs of Smiths and this latest order feels like the quality has gone down. Nonetheless I will use as a back up pair when floating since I cannot return as these were sent to me unsolicited this morning.
I have always loved my smith glasses for fishing and have taken meticulous care of each pair for years on end. I received a new pair of Embarks for the holidays and unfortunately was met with scratched lenses. The inside of the lenses are covered in scratches, the outside of the lenses arent too bad. Disappointed as I was looking forward to having crisp lenses for the next several years.
