This was my first time ordering this brand pork roast, it had fat but wasn't so bad that i had to cut some off. I used the Mississippi pot roast recipe and cooked it 8 hours. I did season and sear on all sides before cooking in crockpot. It was tender and full of flavor, the order price was around $16.00 but end up costing $19. something, which was ok id rather have too much than not enough because we had company. Will buy again
This item is boneless and wrapped in butcher twine and that is ok. But after cooking it and cutting into the roast I found a lot of fat in the middle of the roast. The manufacturer placed a slab of fat in the middle of he roast and wrapped the pork shouder meat around the fat. So, the roast was half fat and half meat. You are better off getting the bone in instead of boneless.
The Smithfield All Natural Boneless Pork Shoulder Butt Roast has great flavor and turns out tender when cooked low and slow, but mine was fattier than I expected. While pork shoulder naturally has some fat to keep it juicy, I found myself trimming quite a bit both before and after cooking. It still worked well for pulled pork sandwiches and tacos, and the flavor was rich and savory. If you don’t mind a higher fat content, this cut can be very versatile—good for BBQ, casseroles, or even breakfast hash with eggs. Overall, it’s a decent roast, but be prepared to trim it and lose some of the weight to excess fat.
This is a nice size roast but being laced up you can't see in side the rolled up roast. When I cut the laced up off there was an extremly huge amount of fat. I know you need some to cook it but it had way to much. You get a better cut with the bone in butt roast.
I have been buying this brand of pork roast for years to make pulled pork. We haven't had pulled pork since December 2025. I bought a roast 4/21/26 and cooked it the same day, the same way I always do. I don't know if it was a fluke, or what but the quality was AWFUL! The meat was tough even though it was cooked in a crockpot?! This roast was also very fatty. Hopefully they haven't changed where they get meat from, or what they feed the pigs etc because this roast was awful compared to the quality in the past.
I usually buy all my meat here. I bought a huge one this time. It was ALL fat inside. Hard as shoe leather. I know how to cook these as well. Don’t know that I’ll ever buy one here again. Very disappointed in this. It cost a lot of money for us too.
I would really appreciate it if employees knew how to pick out good meat! This particular was ALL fat! I decided to go ahead and cook it up, and my son's dogs will have a nice meal tomorrow! I paid almost $15 for this, and it wasn't worth even half of that! Tell your employees that do the shopping to do BETTER! Ask them if they would eat something that is ALL FAT! I guarantee ya they won't! I ordered a different brand, so, hopefully it'll be a lot better! Tyson brand is excellent, and that's what I ordered!
For the last 2 years I have made several attempts to get a pork butt roast, and for the last 2 years, an extremely substandard “boneless pork shoulder butt blade” has been substituted for more than twice the price. I’ve never seen anything like it, but you can cook this thing low and slow for hours, and it’s still like chewing leather. This is another item I would only go to pick out in person.
I realize pork roast is well marbled with fat, but this one was mostly fat. I paid $25 for it, but there wasn't $2 worth of meat in it. This was a terrible disappointment and I will not ever purchase another one. After reading other reviews, I realize this is a common complaint.
I bought one of these last week and cooked it for dinner. After cutting all the string webbing off it fell apart and the whole middle was a big pile of fat. I would guess I paid 20 dollars for 60 % fat . I will never be suckered into buying any meat from Walmart again.
