A minimal amount is required. The number of flies has been significantly reduced.
I switched to this based on other reviews. I do think it works better than the other feed through products that I've tried. In Florida we never have a long enough winter to be rid of flies so we have to use this year round. Don't be discouraged if you're using a feed through for the first time. It can take from 2 to 3 weeks to see a difference so be patient. You may need to use a premise spray for a while until the existing flies die. . . Worth trying for sure !
I have been using Solitude for many years, works great. Dosing amount is easy and more cost effective then other products out there. (I am an employee of Santa Cruz Animal Health, but am writing this as a customer)
I have used fly predators and Solitude for years. I have found starting Solitude in early March (hardiness zone 6b) has made all the difference. I can't start putting fly predators out until mid-April at the earliest. My horses live next to a cow farm that practices little fly control, if any. My farrier tells me I have the least number of flies of all the farms he visits.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just started using this product this spring; in previous years I used another type of larval growth inhibitor. For the first time, face flies have not been a major problem! I am sold on this product.
This product has really helped cut down the fly load on our 40 acre ranch. We use speed through fly control for a cattle and found out it really helped, so started our horses on it also. Will never be without it!
Been using this product for the past 4 years and it does work. I have 4 equines on my property, all of them are on this, you do have to start early, and keep using all summer. I'm in S Texas and I start around Feb and use until at least Oct. My vet referred this product.
I live in Florida where the flies play havoc on my horse. My poor Mac was suffering terribly from summer sores caused by poor fly control at a boarding facility he was at for six months. The flies larvae were basically eating him from the inside out. They had even eaten about a 1/4 inch of his urethra off. In the short time he was boarded there, I paid approx. $4,000 in six months - giving my vet the down payment for her new truck (LOL). Having had enough of seeing my poor boy suffer, I moved to a private location and began feeding Solitude IGR. I cannot believe the difference in both my horse's health and in the lack of flies around the barn and, especially, on the poop piles!!! We have NO flies now!!! This product is absolutely AMAZING!!! I cannot say enough good things! I will always use this product for all my horses!!
We run a 10 stall barn with 15-20 horses on site at all times. Started using this product in early March this year; we had an early spring that jumped right into summer. It took longer than the stated 6 week period to see results; even starting that early. Every horse on the farm received the required dosage daily. Once it did start to work, it was very noticeable. We have tried the other two feed-thru products (Simplifly and Farnum Equitrol) the last two years. The Simplifly seemed to work almost as well as the Solitude in my opinion; for about half the money. The Equitrol did not work at all for us. Simplifly is much less expensive than Solitude; and since we ended up using a premise spray with both, I will likely go with the Simplifly next year. Both of those products performed well. Would recommend either of them.
So far I'm not seeing any results, I've just bought my 2nd tub because a friend recommended it but we still have a lot of flies. Maybe that'll be different in the spring if we start then. I'm hoping that's the case.
