In some previous reviews there were many issues mentioned that it wouldn't play older DVDs.If you see the error when you insert the DVD, press OK and it'll play the movie.I learned how to troubleshoot these new fangled contraptions having been one of the Pioneers of CT & MRI, one learns that you're going to have to solve issues on the flyI'm very happy especially how great my older DVDs look. The apps you can load into from your own apps makes one's life easier to use especially when I have direct access to certain apps that I used to have to plug directly into my Smart TV from my phone or laptop.I do have my personal preference using a wired network connection versus WiFi.But for the money. It's a real deal! Not all of us are blessed with buying high end products.
This device was easy to use and connected to the TV and other sound enhanced device illustrated in the owner manual, and easily used by adult and children in the house: played DVD effectively and I will recommend it to others.
Those claiming it doesnt work for playing 4k discs, they are ignorant and giving incorrect answers/review.It is working correctly because it IS NOT A 4K player!Gahhhh!!Read carefully!!It clearly says it can upconvert lower resolution bluray discs to 4K for 4KTvs.It will NOT play a 4K disc.Players that can play a 4K disc cost MORE!!Understand the issue and dont describe something as not working just because you dont understand the subject matter. The player works fine.Only negative thing I can say about it is that the remote is tiny.I hardly can claim to have big hands but holding the remote in one hand and pushing the buttons with the same hand isnt easy.. find myself using one hand to hold the remote and my other to push buttons. If you like tiny remotes its a winner.Lol!Last comment.. it plays dvds fine. Not sure what some reviewers are talking about.Maybe their dvd is coated in dust or scratched up.. mine works fine for that.Fact of the matter is that ANY blu ray player will play dvds also.. music CDs as well.
Overall this unit performs well and seems to upscale DVDs to almost Blu-Ray quality. I'm not sure if it upscales Blu-Ray to almost 4k because I've never seen what 4k media looks like on my TV. I only tried one streaming service briefly and it worked OK. I bought it to play discs and think the streaming services are redundant and a bit silly since I can use either my TV or PC for those. There is one minor problem. Sometimes it produces an annoying little buzzing sound that you can only hear if the sound is really low or off. I've found that ejecting and restarting can eliminate it but that can be a bit of a pain. Other than that it's a good little unit.
Unit turned off/on TV while playing DVD. Worked fine playing BluRay. Spent three hours on phone with Sony trying to determine problem. Final advice from Sony was to contact LG to defeat signal line from Sony player. Tried a second Sony unit with identical result. Bought a SamSung unit and it works perfectly.
Nice and steady to set up but it was suppose to be a 4K blue ray DVD player and it not. Money wasted.
Bought this model to replace a lower-end Sony Blu-Ray player that only lasted a few months. Figured a higher-end model would be better quality. Nope. We've only had this one about a year, and it doesn't work consistently. It periodically stops recognizing certain buttons on the remote (not the batteries), the power and eject buttons on the unit don't respond half the time, and just this week, it's now making me reconnect to the wireless network and log into Netflix every time I turn it on. Of course, most of the time it suddenly shuts itself off right after telling me it's now connected, so I have to start all over again, OR, it freezes up while connecting and I have to pull the plug. The first DVD player I ever got was an off-brand, but lasted over a decade and never had a problem. I've since owned about half a dozen Blu-Ray players (Sony, Samsung, LG), and none of them have made it past a year before needing to be replaced. It's obviously a software issue, but you'd think these top-tier tech companies would put out better products.
most of the apps are outdated. cannot load more apps. playstation app non exiting.
this unit locks up in netflix too oftenabout once a weekit locks up and will not process selected netflix showabout every 2 weeks i am forced to re-enter my email and password for netflixremote will not turn unit on and off most of the timethis unit has many aptsbut does not have HULUI am sorry i bought this uniti have many other sony productswhichare greati am very disappointed in this unitsony bdp-s6700i think you should refund my moneymaybe you can replace it with a better unitThanks
This player worked great for about a month and then it just died. Made sure it wasn't the remote control. Player became unresponsive, even when pushing the buttons directly on the player. Worst Sony product I have ever owned. Will now buy Samsung instead.
