great dvd player....great price

MrsHuss July 18, 2011

my parents owned an older dvd player that would'nt play ALL dvd's (especially the copied ones). I set up this one (super easy) and used an HDMI cable with it that I bought online @ Walmart for 4.88. What a fantastic picture!!!! I would recommend it to anyone! Had to order a second one for their 2nd TV !!!!

Does exactly what it is supposed to do

Davidad January 30, 2011

This is a fine DVD player, great value for the cost. The remote is well designed and works well. I saw a couple other reviewers say that there is no open/close drawer button on the remote and how that was so inconvenient...but think about, if you are opening the drawer you are going to remove or insert a DVD and you have to be right next to the player to do that....so, I don't understand why that would be a big deal to anyone. Typical Sony quality, it works well and is a great value.

Outstanding!

astronoman May 22, 2011

This player is awesome! You'd swear you were watching a blu-ray when you stand at least 5 feet away from my 42" hdtv. They aren't kidding when they say it upconverts dvds to near-hd quality. Using this dvd player with an hdmi cable blows other dvd players connected with simpler composite a/v cables completely away. The difference is night & day. This player is also smart enough to automatically present the dvds in the proper aspect ratio (no cropping, zooming, or stretching if movie is presented as widescreen; only stretches full-frame dvds horizontally), a very nice feature! Very sleek, small, & stylish player. Not noisy, as others have stated. You won't be sorry. Sony rocks! Wish the universal remote worked on my Sanyo tv, though :)

DVD PLAYER

Alffer August 14, 2020

A lot better to set up than the blu ray but I would have preferred the blu ray. Pictorgrams help, the blu ray previous knocked out oud HMDI 1 and i don't know why. The blu ray even though it's more money had wifi and better options and most today are blu ray. Could you help me in selecting one of your blu ray that is easier to set up then I can play some of my dvd's , thanks?

Not too bad for a Sony DVD player..

JCAO August 1, 2011

This Sony DVD player isn't too bad... the hdmi pretty much improves everything! but the remote-control doesn't come with an eject button... And for some reason my remote-control is having trouble with connecting to the receiver. Every time when i try to click Next or pause, it would't work.

Nice DVD player

ronald0749 July 30, 2011

I only have one complaint - the remote also controls a Sony 400 disc carousel I've had for some time. Have shut one off to use the other. I bought this single player because it is very simple to operate and has an HDMI output - the old carousel doesn't. The picture resolution is excellent on my plasma. Also plays almost anything on a CD or DVD disc. Good unit.

when it works, it's very good

Hate2shop43 May 8, 2011

Arrived on 21 April.First tried on 25th April. It worked for 2 dvds then locked so badly had to be sent to Sony in Texas on the 26th April. Sony sent a new replacement on 4 May... which has worked for 3 DVDs so far. Have my fingers crossed. Picture is wonderful. HDMI cables(cost in $6-8.00 range) purchased as other reviewers suggested, great.

Sad to say, Sony disappoints

ktanker March 10, 2011

I bought this dvd player on July 20, 2010. Upon first purchase, the product seemed great. The remote was lacking some basic features but I chose to keep the product because of the quality Sony offered with their products. Sadly, 8 months after my purchase, the player began to fail. It was clearly and internal issue yet I spent an hour chatting with support being told how to "clean a dvd" or "check my power cord". Ultimately, despite being under warranty and under a year old, if I want the product serviced, I would need to pay to ship it, pay for any labor (no price quote could be given) and pay to ship it back to me. The whole process would take an undetermined amount of time. Frankly it's just not worth it. Find a product that will last longer than 8 months. I won't buy Sony again, and I bought Sony for 16 years prior to this. I expected a lot more.

Sony DVD Player

bighounds May 5, 2011

The remote control did not work from the very beginning. I called Sony customer service and they told me how to reset the remote. After resetting the remote it started to work, but only partially. In that I mean it would play a DVD, but would not power off or on. I thought this may not be a big deal. The next day, tried it again, and again the remote didn't work at all. Tried to reset it again, but this time nothing happened. Terrible instructions were of no help, they didn't even address how to reset the remote. They simply read that if the remote doesn't work to check the batteries. Horrible, cheap product. I was very surprised how bad this DVD player was considering it was made by Sony. Do yourself a favor and don't buy it.
