Walkman Review

Zak 5 January 24, 2026

So far I am enjoying this product. It is easy to use.

It's really a good MP3 player, I like everything about it! It can take a while to upload songs, but that's the same with all devices.

not perfect, but really like this player

BTH8 April 29, 2025

happily using with no google account. i've installed some apks using my sandisk 256GB card, including media monkey. but the preinstalled sony app is nice to use, simple, and has a great shuffle algorithm, if you prefer it. i love the direct sound, it's like hearing my music for the first time... even though most of it is high-quality formats or cds, i wasn't hearing it as great as it really sounds, because i'm mostly using a computer instead of a stereo, and i don't have a huge budget or a lot of knowledge. i feel like android is bulky for me and would buy a player without it, but you can make it pretty unobtrusive. also this thing needs the ability to put a strap or leash, i didn't see one offered here, but it's a slippery lil thing and it will jump out of your pockets if you're not careful.

Not the best for the price.

SD112 January 24, 2025

Got this shortly after Christmas and the sound quality is a firm "medium." The device itself is not compatible with Android Auto/Apple Carplay, unless you download a 3rd party music player app. Even then l, you must increase device volume to near maximum, as well as the car console volume. Auxiliary input is much worse, you must make sure both devices (player and car) are at maximum, and remember to turn the car volume DOWN before disconnecting, or you will suffer a splitting headache. Interface is standard for any Android based device, and usage is comparable. Native player app, has no discernable way to separate music by genre, and any downloaded podcasts or audiobooks are inaccessible in native app. Again, a 3rd party app would be recommended for this. The asking prince is ridiculously high for the minimum possible features.

Not very intuitive...

KEITH March 15, 2025

Not very intuitive... they don't tell you that you need to add music to the walkman through the music center for desktops....

Solid player for the $$, but Volume is a pain

Ponybrew June 1, 2026

Don't buy the Europe/North America NW-A306 models. Just don't. Spend the extra time & money, and find a Japanese model. The Europe/NA models are neutered with "hearing safety" features. Less power, less volume, and a pesky Volume Alert pop-up every 20 hours of play (which drops the volume, until you click OK on the player). So if you're listening at the gym, or in your car, or at a party/pool/picnic -- you'll need to stop what you're doing, grab the player, and click OK. Just a massive inconvenience. Almost like it was designed by Sony Legal or Engineering, with zero consideration for the real-world user experience. It would be nice if Sony released an update, allowing users to opt-out of the Volume Alert. Until then, I have to deduct some points. Strictly as a player, I give it 4.5 stars. Then subtract 0.5 stars for Google bloat, and 1 star for the Volume issues.

Had high hopes but very much underwhelmed

Lee April 27, 2024

Doesn't seem to support the high impedance mode with an intentional software limit. With the supported power output, unable to drive a decent headphones. Not much difference between the Wired or Bluetooth modes. Don't feel the value of carrying another device while my Smartphone provides very close, if not similar, performance.

Very disappointed in Sony with this player

bdfesq May 27, 2026

This is the worst music player I have ever owned. I think they used an Android system from 2010. It is clunky, slow as molasses and not intuitive. Skip this junk.

Doesn't work in a tesla

Tesla owner March 12, 2024

You'd think the music and video standards would be Bluetooth agnostic but I guess not. 2 different devices and no luck, all it sees are the never to be connected Bluetooth points in the tesla
