This 80GB Version of the Playstation 3 is best-selling and worth an idea. It has built-in Wi-Fi for access to the Playstation Network and this console plays DVD and Blu-Ray movies (special remote required). This is just the right idea to buy this console for $400.
This is a great product! Perfect for the whole family as it has both the BluRay player and game system. I was worried the bluray quality may not be as good of quality as a stand alone bluray player but we have had no problems. The difference between PS2 & PS3 is nothing short of astounding. If you are planning to use this as a bluray player I would definitely reccomend getting the remote as well. This is a purchase well worth the $.
I got the P3 for my son and he is still playing as I'm writing this email. He haven't stop. I would say this is the best game I've gotten so far. I'm also a player of the game now!!!
I orignally purchased the 40g PS3 in August mostly for the blu ray player. I just assumed selecting a PS3 since it was close to the same price and also played video games. I paid $399 at the time. Last thursday Wal Mart had a sale for the 80g for $399 with a $100 gift card. I got to Wal Mart at 4:00am and waited till 8am to get mine. I put that one in the bedroom. Great system. I almost had to make a return because the games would freeze when loading but I just restored the factory settings and it fixed the problem. If your considering a blu ray player go get this instead. Not just entertainment anymore it's a way of life.
It met expectations and then some It is awesome for anyone looking for a simple and yet useful machine
The set-up of the unit was farily easy and everything worked right out of the box. The optional internet connection might be tricky depending on your application. I love the fact that you have a Blue-Ray player with the gaming system. So far, so good!
Many people buy this product for the reverse compatability. But dont be fooled, the ps2 reverse compatability was done away with in the new 80 GB PS3 models. Otherwise not a bad price for a 80 GB hardrive and blue-ray player
System works extremely well for games, Blu Ray, and upscaled DVD playback. It does what you would buy a PS3 to do. New dual shock three controller is nice; heavier, with a slightly more intuitive feel, but not worth going out and buying it just to upgrade the controller you already have. HOWEVER, it is important to note what is no longer included with this player: 1. Others have noted that it is not backwards compatible with PS2 games. I do not know. 2. It no longer includes the nifty card reader that almost all previous versions included on the front panel, under the fold-up door. 3. It no longer includes air vents in front. 4. Also seems to have dropped one USB port. 5. Shiny metal highlights have been replaced with a burnished metal look that makes it look cheap. In short, it still has it where it counts, but many nice-to-haves are now gone. Not sure why so much effort was put into making this version less attractive/less versatile.
When I ordered this play station I was very excited, a 80 gigabyte play station 3 that is less than the competitors. Unfortunately, when I got the item, I realized that many of the features that I wanted were not there. First, this play station has a smaller processor than the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle has, (not a big deal, but still something I wasn't expecting). Second, this play station is not backwards compatible, ie: sorry, no playing any play station 2 games on this machine. Third, 2 usb slots instead of four; not a problem if you only use the controllers, but a big problem if you are planning to have rock band or a play station eye attached. The nice thing is that it does have built in blue ray/upconvert dvd player, a smaller processor compared to the MGS4 bundle, (this does consume less electricity though), and pretty much every other feature the larger play station 3's are none for. I'd suggest you go for the higher priced Metal Gear Solid 4 Play Station 3 bundle, as this console will have the 4 usb ports, the larger processor, and last but not least; the (70%) backward compatible with previous play station games.
Well Like an idiot I bought the system when it was $600 bucks. And what a waste of money, There are NO good games, the online store is free I admit, but the arcade games stink and there aren't alot of tv shows and movies like 360 has, plus the servers stink if you are planning on playing online then you're going to experince lots of lag. Alot people bought a ps3 just because its a cheap blu-ray player. But I wanted a game console, and thats not what the ps3 is. Its just a big hunk of plastic that sits in my living room while I play Gears of war on my 360 or mario galaxy on my Wii. In the end, if you want a cheap blu-ray player then buy a ps3, if you're expecting a good games system........your wrong. If your a hardcore gamer then buy a 360, there are alot of good shooter games for 360. If you want a family friendly console then buy a wii. If you want you could even buy a 360 for yourself, and a Wii for your kids so your both satisfied. Ps3 is defentily the worst game console I have ever seen.
