Top quality, amazing lens! I recently made the switch from Canon to Sony a couple weeks ago and was looking for a great portrait lens to pair with my Sony. I am use to using Canon's glass and great lenses such as the 50mm f1.2L, 85mm f.12L ii, the "nifty-fifty" and the 35mm f 1.4L lens. Most of these lenses comes down to personal preference of the photographer and the goal he/she is trying to capture, but all these lenses take outstanding photos. After watching several YouTube videos, I bit the bullet, made the switch and purchased this 85mm f 1.8 lens. I couldn't be happier! Compared to the G-Master version of this, SAVE YOUR MONEY, to me this lens is better than it's more expensive counterpart. Sure the G-Master has some other features, but when it comes to sharpness, you can't tell which photo was taken with what lens. It is even better than the Batis version.
Compared to the 85mm from Canon, it is not as sharp around the edges, bokeh is personal preference, I prefer the Sony, but overall for several hundred dollars less, the Sony is the best value.
I am incredibly happy with this lens for my portrait shooting. I have not really tested this lens with any other types of photography just yet, but I can't see it disappointing me too much.
The Sony Eye AF feature, is another great feature and paired with this lens, you get stunning, high detail photos.
If you are looking for a high quality portrait lens, and you don't want to spend almost $1,000 or over $1,000, then this lens is for you!
