I bought this product over five years ago, and I LOVE IT! From 4K UHD blu-ray to regular blu-ray discs, it makes old DVDs look and sound great! You play Super Audio CDs in multi-channel & 2-channel formats and it also plays CDs. Connect to an audio device via Bluetooth (I own a Panasonic SA-PMX150 stereo, which has Bluetooth in, and even with just 2 speakers films and tv come alive with this player.

This is an excellent disc player. You do need to select app Dolby Vision in the menu. When Dolby vision is on the Bravia feature is disabled. Some reviews have stated you can't play discs without Dolby Vision when the Dolby Vision is on. You can play discs that don't have Dolby Vision with the Dolby Vision app is selected. I like the new home menu which is simpler without all the apps the previous model 800 had,. It is great disc player for CD"s and a SACD's. Picture and sound for video playback is superb.

This is a great player except for one thing: the 'pause' doesn't hold very long on many Blu-ray discs and you have to start over from the absolute beginning each time you come back to the movie. This is ridiculous when much lower priced players (LG) don't have this issue. Very disappointed that Sony overlooked this simple item on a pricey 2019 model.

It took a while to figure out how to send the higher resolution of SACD to my stereo and be able to see the selections I was making. It would be nice to have more display info on the DVD player itself, I could drop the TV out of the mix. I would LOVE if the display also would show the resolution of the music being played.

If exceptional features and cutting edge technology are what you seek, one can hardly do better than Sony's UBP-X800M2 4K Blu-ray Player. Now that OPPO is no longer a viable option it's good to see that Sony is producing quality universal disc players for a reasonable price. This ultra sleek machine plays virtually every disc known to man! Blu-ray, SACD, DVD-Audio, CD - you name it but there is still room for improvement. I would like to give the X800 an excellent rating but it has been unresponsive on a few occasions necessitating unplugging and plugging the unit back in, which is maddening. It's only happened a couple times but I hope what-ever caused this issue can be remedied by a future firm-ware release, still all in all I'm very happy with the purchase.

The player is reliable and produces a great picture but it needs automatic Dolby Vision switching. Having to do it manually is stupid and I just leave DV off most of the time and forget to turn it on when I have DV content so it stays off.

I bought this blue ray player for 2 reasons --- one is to play the variety of formats that I want to play - and it does this to expectations. The second is to use the device as a smart device for streaming services. It comes with Netflix and YouTube. The manual indicates in 2 places that more can be added (once in a screen shot which has 4 streaming services displayed, and once in the instructions indicating how to add more). There is no place to add additional streaming services in addition to the 2 that came with the product. Very disappointed in this short coming in the product.

I have had this product for two days. I have watched 1 DVD and 3 4K discs on this device. The very first movie I watched (Back to the Future 4K Blu-Ray disc), the device froze twice. The second time, I had to reboot the system. I moved the device to a space with more ventilation and noted to clean disc better before next movie. I also checked for any updates, but there were none. The next night, I watched Shazam! 4K Blu-Ray disc, the device froze again, twice. If this happens again, I will be returning this device.

Had this player for about a year now. Great player when it works, but the known issues on this player and its flaws are complete deal breakers 1) There is an alleged laser issue both with this model and the cheaper one in the lineup, that causes discs to freeze or skip during playback. I've had this happen to me each time in the last 4-5 discs I've watched, from LOTR 4K to Harry Potter 4K. Discs are completely smudge and scratch free, brand new discs, yet the player freezes and skips. Restarting the machine usually fixes it, and I can resume where I left off, but that's simply not acceptable coming from Sony (didn't they create blu-ray in the first place?). 2) This other issue is more documented, and is more of an inconvenience than the first problem, and that's with how Dolby Vision is enabled on this player. The user has to go into the Setup menu each and every time to either enable DV playback when playing a DV disc, and to turn it off when playing discs without DV. In the end, the freezing/skipping is a deal breaker - DO NOT BUY!!!

I purchased this player in May 2019 and it no longer powers on with the remote or the power button on the front of the unit. I have to unplug and plug it back in to get it to work.
