We fell in love with this TV seeing it on display and from online reviews knew it had amazing upscaling... how good though we had no idea! We have other friends with nice OLED TVs but none compare to the clarity when watching older TV show or DVDs. While we normally use our Apple TV, which works perfectly with it, but the included Google interface is very nice, easy to get around in and very fast. We purchased the Apple TV because our old TV's interface was slow and cumbersome. I have owned Sony TVs since the 70s and purchased another brand last time, it was a good TV but not a Sony. We are very happy to be back in our familiar Sony camp again! Last thing, even the packing and documentation was well done, it was like they thought of everything and the OTA updates have already added features we thought we might miss out on. Thank you Sony!
Absolutely love the TV. Love that I can turn the screen off and that the sound will still play (great for those that listen to meditative sleep music) without fear of screen burn in. Love that Google can turn on and off & adjust dimness of all my Hue lights! Too many great things to mention. As always with anything there is a down side, but for me it isn't with the the TV itself. The picture instructions for the various stand position configs is LACKING, but if you stop and think about it you can figure it out!
The overall quality is great - we added sound bar from Sony and picture and sound is fantastic. My only complaint is we've had trouble with the interface between the cable box and the TV and getting the remote to seamlessly work with the cable box. The remote is small and it doesn't seem to have many buttons. We have to use a different remote to access the DVR. Possibly there's a way to fix this, but we haven't been able to figure it out.
Overall, the TV is excellent. However, the documentation is terrible. What little there is of it is OK but, I was expecting a manual of some kind that went into some detail. All it explain was the remote control. The online documentation is pretty mediocre. They're a bunch of things. I have no idea what they're all about. The picture quality is excellent on the TV itself.
Example: To direct select a TV channel:1. Depress the '123' button. This takes you to a sub-menu, which shows you several of its sub-menus,i.g., cc(close captions), audio, previous channel/inputs and the 123 number subpanel, but you get the idea. By selecting the numbers subpanel a horizontal bar appears. By moving the selection along the horizontal bar and depressing /selecting the desired channel numbers then move the selector to the lower 'enter' spot. Who knew? Some intro direction would have been helpful.
I've had this only for about a week and a half. All is pretty good, satisfied with the picture, but very disappointed they left out "Variable Audio Out" so you can control your volume on your connected stereo with only the Sony remote. This was and still is a needed function. My 2018 Sony XBR-65X900F had this function, why not this more expensive TV? Can they not add that android routine that was in Android 9, and port it to this version Android 10 on this new TV? Maybe I'll just take it back before the 30 in store return policy expires. Poor showing on this Sony!!!
The TV is great. I love the Google TV, it could use more apps. I did have to spend a ton of time getting the TV to brighten up and not auto-dimm. I finally ended up using Dynamic mode and lowering the brightness. I also have the same TV OLED in LG and don't have this issue. Also, seems to need to make the same adjustments in every app because they each have their own picture setting.
I found that the picture was not bright enough set at factory settings. I had to make some picture adjustments to get it brighter. If the picture was brighter this TV would get. 5 Star review. I have a Bose sound system, but this TV has very good quality sound. There is no shadowing in dark scenes. Dark to light variations are crisp. The TV screen has a anti glare finish that works pretty good. This OLED is almost twice the cost of a edge lit LCD, so that is something to consider.
A very nice picture and a decent TV. Unfortunately, Sony seems to be stagnant in comparison to its main OLED competitors. Whereas the main OLED competitor has made some strong advancements with its models this year, Sony has actually stepped backwards in a few key areas such as picture brightness, ABL, and tone mapping. Sound quality is another disappointment compared to previous models. It is nice to have the option to use the TV as a center speaker, but most users will not use it this way. Sony added another actuator to improve vocals which did improve slightly, but they also neutered about 20Hz from the lower end, causing a noticeable shift in the fullness and quality of the TV sound. It was nice to not have to always use an external sound system for certain programs. Their SOC is also showing signs of age in its connections and user interface usability and speed. Overall, the A80K OLED TV is a good product for most people and a fine choice. Although I am a Sony fan, this product is no longer my first choice for a recommendation in this segment.
Radiation problems and blotchy blacks in certain movies. Inconsistent color always having to change it depending on what I'm watching. I'm not happy with the TV at all. Somethings look really good and a lot of other things look really bad. I'm OCD so the light on the TV is not centered and it bothers me.
