i tried 5-HTP for the first time some years ago now. i have fibromyalgia in a form which does not produce seratonin. 5-HTP helps my body to do something it otherwise cannot do. this particular dosage allows me to adjust it slowly if the need should arise, which, unfortunately, it hasn't.

Source Naturals 5-HTP contains no dairy, soy, grain, or HPMC, all of which are problematic for me. I take one 50mg capsule twice a day as one of a number of supplements to go with brown mucuna powder, which I take three times a day for Parkinsonism. I was taking one capsule three times a day, but a neurotransmitter test showed that my serotonin got too high, so my doctor cut me back to two a day.

I buy it for my mom. It helps her with anxiety (she doesn't have it anymore), craving of sweets, low mood, sleep. it is an active form of tryptophan a-precursor of Serotonin (hormone of happiness) . She takes it 30 -40 minutes before food once a day. Please like the review if you find it helpful.

I am definitely one with sleeping issues, and 5-HTP has turned out to be one of the supplements that makes a real difference. More specifically, the combination of melatonin, tryptophan (5-HTP), chamomile and kava make up my "herbal cocktail" for sleep, and they help immensely.

I was misdiagnosed with depression by various medical professionals across many years . A Dr specialising in natural medicine had me do a neurotransmitter test. That showed my 5-HTP level was slightly down. Taking this according to Dr's instruction, my levels are perfect i.e. just what the Dr ordered! I'm not too sad or too happy (which is what he wanted), just perfect. If I stop, down goes the level again. I do not respond to other products, for me in particular it needs to be exactly what this is - straight 5-HTP. I also take 1 more each night during the latter worst stage of PMT, find that helps PMT blues.

It's a great product. I love the low dose and a capsule which can be emptied into water and drunk as a solution for fast absorption. 5htp is helpful in the evening for better sleep and for improving mood during day. I keep an eye how it will effect appetite.

I haven't had any issues with taking this, but neither have I felt more sleepy or any changes in mood. I have been taking this for a couple of weeks now, and I will continue until the bottle is empty to see if it makes a difference. I was really hoping that over time it would help me sleep. I take 100 mg around dinner, then 100 mg more a couple hours before sleep. Others have said try earlier, so I have taken 100 as early as 3 pm. I don't want to try much earlier, as I do not want it to affect other supplements.
