South Shore Cosmos Kids Captain 4-Drawer Storage Bed, Full, Black Onyx

With an already-tiny bedroom, my queen-sized bed monopolized most of the space, the mattress was uncomfortable, and the bed-frame was a massive cast-iron and marble monstrosity, and so I was looking for something cheap that would take up the least amount of space, as well as look really nice. This South Shore Cosmos Twin Mates Bed met all of these points for me. I chose the black onyx color, which is gorgeous, though both colors would have went well with anything. Assembling it wasn't too terribly difficult (though you will need another pair of hands for set up)--there was even a handy little touch-up marker just in case I accidentally made any scratches--and the result was a bed that didn't take up unnecessary amounts of space, and even gave me extra space to store things down underneath and out of the way in large drawers. It was the perfect purchase (I even got free shipping)! Overall, a great product for a great price! A very satisfactory bed!

I was a bit hesitant to order this bed because it looks brown in the picture and I wanted black but after opening the package I was extremely relieved to see that the bed actually is black. I'm not sure why they make it look brown in the picture. It took me and my mom about 3 hours to put both the bed and the matching headboard together but MAN it looks sharp. It's sturdy and modern looking. I love it!

Everything is perfect with the bed except one thing- the boards that hold the mattress are flimsy and unstable. I had to secure them to the bed using some brackets I bought from the hardware store. If you don't secure the boards in some way, they will lift on the ends when you sit on the mattress. Minor gripe and minor fix but still should be fixed by the manufacturer. 4/5 stars due to this one thing.

The item was shipped to my home for free, which was great. When we opened the box 2 of the pieces had dings from the shippers rough treatment, but luckily they were dings that could be hidden so not a big deal. My son put it together in about an hour and half to two hours. It looks good. Although, since my 12 year old will be using it, I had to caution him about jumping on the bed or doing any sort of rough housing on this bed, because it is not made up of the best materials ever, but then again you get what you pay for. All in all, not a bad bed for the price. Love the drawers under the bed, but be careful not to overload them because the bottoms of the drawers are very flimsy. If this is just a temporary bed for your child/grandchild, it will get the job done. Not sure how long it will last over the years though. I'd assume if it's taken care of properly it could last a good long while. Since we just got ours on the 12th of Dec. 2012, we'll see how it goes.

It's a nice bed for the price. Pretty easy to put together just takes a bit of time. The color is way darker than the picture (almost black) and the bed frame is a little too big for a twin mattress. Be carefull when assimbling---the wood scratches easily.

The bed itself is great, the extra storage under is just what we needed.. The instructions however were awful. Diagrams showing screws where dowels should go... Take your time putting it together and you'll be fine.

First of all...... I can't even give a review on the quality of this bed put together because I am not able to do that yet! I opened the box today thinking I was going to have my son in his new bed tonight.... but the quality of the parts is "bottom of the barrel" in my opinion. We have all seen the screws on quality furniture pieces that screw in to certain boards and then lock into metal washers on another board.... these people have apparently found a "better" CHEAPER way to do this.... these pieces are now supposed to be pushed into a predrilled hole and little "fins" catch the sides and keep them from coming back out. WRONG! The holes are drilled too big so they freely slide in and out. Thank god for construction adhesive! It is sad that I had to resort to this... but a little adhesive in each hole.... overnight to harden.... and im sure the rest will go together without a hitch. That being said.... spend the extra money and get something that will go together RIGHT with the materials provided. Nobody should have to "redneck it" to assemble a prefabricated piece of furniture. ENOUGH SAID

When I picked up my delivered platform bed in a box, the end was crunched and exposed to the air. I noticed when I took it out that it was chipped off on an end but thought I could make it work and went on to attempt to assemble the bed. Upon assembly I realized that the broken corner meant that the bed would not brace at the base, and would remain unstable in use and for the drawer to go in and out. I am returning this product after much time and effort. Don't except if the box is damaged, and do not attempt to assemble alone and if you are not handy with projects. The directions are awful, no written directions, just pictures! It is impossible to decipher which length of screws go in to which area from the tiny pictures. If you are very handy and don't need directions, and there is no damage to the box, it could be a cute bed, but would not stand up to a move.

We have been so excited about the arrival of my 9 year old son's new more "grown up" bed, but after having it put together I am HIGHLY disappointed! There are MULTIPLE pieces that were slightly damaged. Once put together the footboard piece is not flush and all 3 of the drawers tilt to the right and do not stay closed completely. The directions were followed exactly and all parts are connected into the predesignated spaces. I plan to contact the manufacturer as requested on the instruction booklet regarding the damaged pieces and the crooked drawers. Hopefully they can recommend so type of solution and the bed will meet my original expectations.

I bought two of these for my boys and took the first one out of the box to put together and it looked ok until one piece just crumbled in half which we were willing to gorilla glue back together until I noticed one of the bigger pieces was already split down the middle on the visible side and decided this wasn't a sturdy bed or purchase. Thankfully I was able to take them back to my local walmart without hassle but now I'm without beds for my kids until I find new ones.
