Southern Living Big Daddy Hydrangea Live Shrub in 3-Gallon Grower Pot

I ordered two of these Big Daddy Hydrangeas for an excellent price. The plants were much larger than I expected. I received them on 5/19/2025. It was about 5 days before I could report them and they were quite root bound. I am keeping them in 5 gallon buckets until next spring when I will give them a permanent home. Both have some summer blooms and are wider than the top of the buckets.. One is blue, the other pink. Colors can be altered with soil pH adjustments. both were healthy and doing very nicely, surviving the transplant and loosing the roots very well.

Delivery driver handled package very carefully and reminded me it’s a live plant! There was no damage to box or plant but a good bit of soil was spilled over in the bag . Maybe from packaging. But very pleased no blooms but was glad to see no blooms yet. Now we wait to see if they bloom.

Packaged for delivery was top notch. The leave, plant and all is in perfect condition. I can’t wait to see the blooms. Great price and highly recommend.

So well packed and delivered. Soil is great and the plant will be absolutely beautiful when it blooms completely. Great value. My yard will look like the Garden of Eden after I am through.

one of my plants was practically dead on arrival and another was not far behind. the other 2 looked good

It is dying. When checking if connected in all its dirt it came up real quick with barely any dirt on it. It had a big chunk around of top of stuff on top above pot. It is not dirt on top like you see in most plants. I watered last night and today and the top was not wet. Have no clue what is on the top that doesn’t seem to take or hold water. I was told by my friend since it looked so bad today to pull stalk up and it was separated from dirt in container. She said I needed to repot with potting soil and water it 2 times a day like drown it until water comes out bottom. I did that and the stuff up top around the plant was still dry. I repotted it into another pot and tried to separate the top stuff so it would soak water up into roots and rewatered it. I will see what it looks like tomorrow. But so far I am not happy about it

I ordered 4 of these. One was damaged in transit and was replaced promptly. This hydrangea is not a Big Daddy. Leaves and blooms are much smaller. Take your chance if you will.

Such a disappointment. This plant arrived with no flowers just 10 leaves. Hopefully it will grow.
