Great hoop. Assembly directions could have been more clear. My husband and I had to re-do certain parts of it because one page would show one way, but later the diagrams would show things differently. It seems very sturdy and looks great. We have it filled with water and the h2old gel. Our 7 year old with NBA ambitions is in heaven. Shipping was great even during the shutdown.
The pole is great for the money. I read several reviews that mentioned the instructions were not clear. These reviews were right. Read thru the instructions carefully before you start assembling the 3 pole sections. It took me 2 1/2 hours to assemble, but had I not read the instructions related to assembling the 3 pole sections several times before I started, it would have been much longer.
Not difficult to put together if you read instructions - just make sure and have a helper with you when you assemble. Very sturdy and easy to adjust height once put together. Would definitely recommend this system for those who want a 'portable' system in their back yard without having to mount a backboard on a garage/house or other structure.
It only took one person 3 hours and to put together. Very well made and extremely sturdy. Not raising NBA stars but this will definitely do the trick!
Purchased this looking to move from a beginner hoop to the next level for the kids. Walmart had the best price; in some instances by a few hundred dollars. Read the reviews from other customers so had some insight into the issues others had. Would agree you will need two individuals to put this together. Also had issues "pounding" the main upright poles together -- even used a 10 lb sledge hammer to no avail. Ultimately the 1/4 inch I was off really did not matter; so I would not let this deter you. Lastly, the directions really are that bad. You will be better off simply looking at the diagrams -- not bad to put together -- about 2 hours. Ultimately; the hoop really is nice. Kids love it; have gotten multiple compliments from neighbors, and it is sturdy. Make sure you have the hoop where you want it prior to filling the base with water; very heavy, and I really have no fear this thing is going to blow over in moderate to heavy winds like our old one did.
I agree with most others. The directions were terrible. Set aside a half a day. Focus more on pictures and diagrams of this thing when putting it together. Expect to get frustrated a couple of times. Spray WD 40 on the poles before you pound them together. Don't put water in the base. It will crack it in the winter. Don't put sand in the base. You will never be able to move it again. Get ground anchors and straps from Home Depot and anchor the base to the ground.
Feels and looks like an NBA size basketball hoop. Instructions were not easy but not too hard to figure out.Took my husband about 3 hours to build. The backboard arrived with scratches, contacted Spalding and they were willing to ship a new backboard. Shipping was quick. Happy with my purchase
Instructions didn't say where to use alot of washers. And have to drill holes for backboard bottom covers.
The assembly was impossible when the directions are not included. After contacting custome service at Spalding, I was emailed the directions.......but my 9 year old son could have put together a better set of directions. I guess the company assumes everyone buying this product has an engeering degree.
The reason I gave this hoop such a low rating, it for no other reason than assembly. I read reviews of others who said it for sure takes 2 adults, and takes a few hours to set up. Those reviews had to have been made by people who are handy. I am not totally inept, I just need instructions that are reliable. THESE ARE NOT! They don't have all the parts pictured to be identified. They are VERY hard to follow, and if you get it put together in under 2 hours, call the record books! Bought this for my sons 10th birthday, and it took 2 adults FOUR hours to assemble this thing. You better have a big big big dose of patience for this hoop assembly. As for the hoop itself, it's a beast. Good solid construction, does need a strong arm to raise and lower the backboard, but that feature is just fantastic for the kids. The little plastic "protection" thingy in the front works pretty good for a ball return, but the best part is the backboard itself. I was worried reading reviews about the acrylic board. But the ball is VERY quiet off the board compared to our last hoop. I would recommend this hoop, but would also recommend a handy person, or just pay for the blasted assembly fee!!!!
