I am very pleased with this basketball hoop. The build took me about three hours. Directions to build it could have been a little better, but if are somewhat handy, it wasn't too bad. Packaged well to prot against damage. Everything came in the box in perfect condition. Once together I loved it and pleased with my decision. It has a very professional and quality look to it. I didnt want a cheap looking hoop. This one looks great with the tempered glass, and plays well. It takes a little strength to crank the hoop up and down, but most older kids and adults can do it. If it were too easy my kids would be constantly messing with it, so I am not upset about that at all. Overall very pleased. A suggestion to fill the base. Buy a package of Base Gel from Amazon. $15. It turns the water into a heavy gel so that it doesn't slosh around, nor will it freeze in the winter. Follow the directions on the package. It's easy. Enjoy, we are!
Great hoop for the price. It's a large glass backboard for better, more accurate game play. The hoop is also rock solid once assembled. We did 'site to store' and they assembled for FREE. We saved "hundreds" of dollars when compared to Dicks and Sports Authority. The hoop is huge so if you pick it up assbled, bring 2 friends, and a full size truck! After 2 weeks, kids still love it (8 and 6). Easily adjustable hoop is set at 8 feet.
We just purchased two of these systems for our church gym. We needed portable hoops, but we also wanted glass backboards. In all my research this seemed like the second best portable system on the market (the first being "The Beast" by Spalding). Set up takes about four hrs. for one hoop. It takes two guys to set up. The directions are clear. The quality of this system is very good. You will not be disappointed with the way it plays. The glass backboard is so much better than acrylic. Spend the extra money and get glass.
ive always wanted a portable like this (the kids like it too). the glass backboard is sweet. definately need 2 adults 4 a few steps in the assembly. it is portable, but it is kind of heavy and ackward to want to move alot.
I returned an outdoor basketball goal that I had just bought from Walmart and found I didn't need. The goal had been delivered to my house, but with Walmart's return policy, I just took the goal myself to the nearest Walmart - without having to go through the bother and cost of return shipping. When I arrived, Walmart employees unloaded the goal, reimbursed me, and within minutes I was on my way. It couldn't have been easier.
Pros: Solid quality made unit. The glass backboard is very nice - much better than plastic. Cons: Instructions are okay but could be better. My unit ended up being 3" shorter than 10ft so I had to raise the foundation a little. Not sure if I did something wrong or not. If you are looking for a solid portable goal this is a good product.
Bought this after a thorough dad-review of the options available. Saved $100 through Walmart compared to Dick's. Took a good 8 hours over 2 days to get together, partially b/c I filled the base with sand - a challenge but well worth it given the stability it creates and no need to worry about antifreeze etc with water. No missing/defective parts so that was a relief, and the glass backboard arrived (and stayed) intact. Some interesting moments along the way but follow the instructions and most of the assembly can be done by 1 person. Once together this is a QUALITY product, very stable with true play thanks to the glass backboard and breakaway rim. Previously had an inground Goalrilla hoop at last house and this plays just like that one did. Can't go wrong with this hoop!
You read these reviews on how hard this product is to put together is just nuts. I put this thing together in about 3 1/2 -4 hours by myself. Look at the picture and then put it together. These instructions are the same as if you would put a desk together so if you cant do that then well you might have problems with this hoop. I love it put it up and was playing it that night. rebounds great but not like a gym hoop. but thats to be expected since it on outdoors portable hoop. use the tie down and it even make it more sable. Idea to do with the stake and rope use a large screw driver and twist the rope tight when screwing in the stake. I even put a couple 40 lbs sand bags on top after i filled it with water. Like i said this is the best portable ive seen and Ive played on alot. even more sturdy then most in ground hoops. enjoy it you wont be disappointed
Overall a good goal but for what you get is just average for the price paid. Glass is not that expensive to be charged another $150 over acrylic. In addition the thin tubing joints for glass support are only welded on two sides. Why not all 4 sides and use a aluminum (that would justify the price). The instructions do not flow well as you have to keep flipping back and forth to the components section to determine if you have the correct bolt or nut, etc. In addition, there are no close up of sections where you apply spacers so it is difficult to see where to place them. The one thing I do not like is you really cannot put sand in this base even though it says you can. The hole is just big enough for water, there is no way you will put sand in unless you make some type of funnel with a 45 deg tip (in that case it should come with the goal). I have seen others that have the caps (3 inch) on the end for putting sand in the base. Water freezes in the winter you know.
This is a heavy, sturdy high-quality basketball system, no question. The other reviewers are correct - You MUST read and understand the assembly instructions thoroughly before you even start. The most difficult aspect of assembly - and my biggest complaint about this system- is the 3-piece main pole assembly, which you must complete early on in the process. You need to match up these three system poles exactly according to instructions, but even when you do, Spalding's instructions say that you can easily slide and connect the three pole pieces into each other by "bouncing" them on a piece of plywood. This is patently false. They should replace "bouncing" with "pounding". This is difficult to do and makes a lot of noise. I recommend that you warn all of your neighbors before putting this thing together, because you are going to make a lot of pounding noise...and swearing. Put this baby together it on a Saturday, not a Sunday. The 3rd pole piece is so tall, it will require you to get on a ladder to "bounce" it in to the 1st and 2nd pole pieces. Or you can try to prop the first two connected pole pieces against a cinder block wall and wail the 3rd piece into the other two. Sound like fun? Also, the pieces need to be pounded "all the way in", because if you don't, then the jack screw assembly will not go on right, and the entire system will be unstable. I selected this system based on its high reviews, but you really cannot underestimate (as I admittedly did) the elbow grease required to finishe the assembly. But it is a very sturdy unit and I don't think there's a better one available from a performance standpoint. I disagree with the assertion that assembly is or was "easy". They must have received a very different unit than I did.
