Spalding NBA 60 In. Acrylic Screw Jack Portable Basketball Hoop System

This is an extremely well-built unit, but beware. If you don't have some very serious horsepower behind your effort, some serious garage tools other than a little starter socket set, and two strong men, it may not be worth the effort. The main post is a beast. It comes in 3 parts, which press together only with Hurculean effort. And you get only one chance because if you actually manage to get them pressed in even a half inch of the 5 or 6 inches required, they aren't coming apart again. Just banging it on that scrap piece of wood they recommend isn't going to work. An hour later, I still had half to go with no sign of progress for the better part of that effort. In the end, I ended up pressing the assembly between an F250 and an oak tree. That's all I had left. That actually worked, but there's a story behind that due to my wife being behind the wheel while I held the beam in place, which is the stuff of tragic comedy. I just needed another quarter inch to get the first bolt hole lined up, which she interpreted as "put the pedal to the floor." That otherwise solid and nearly indestructible 9 foot beam turned into a four foot tangled steel mess, a broken window in the truck, and a big black tire mark on the driveway as she spun the tires on dry concrete with 1500 pounds in the bed. Seriously, I should have gotten that on video. But one quick trip to the local steel supplier later with some good metal drill bits, and I recovered from that. At least now we have a solid steel post instead of an assembled one. If you have a winch or your unit was built differently than mine, you're golden. The rest is just taking your time and deciphering the otherwise very weird instructions. I give it 5 stars because I'm very happy with the result. The rim is spring mounted, which i consider a great feature much like what you see in the pro courts. There is no movement at all when the ball bounces off the backboard or rim. I'm fully confident this unit will outlast me. But seriously, take heed of my warning about the weight and assembly of this thing. I'd like to tell you it's a 2 hour assembly, and maybe if I had to do another myself, it would be knowing what I know. In all, with the failed first attempt and essentially fabricating a new main post, I had at least 5 hours in the assembly. But I did it myself with help only in the end moving it into place. One little tip. When you're ready to right it for the first time with an empty base, it absolutely will flop over to the other side and come crashing down. Kids and pets inside! Ask me how I know. But even crashing down with the full weight and inertia on the rim and back glass at 9.8m/s/s, it wasn't damaged in the least. This is a very well built unit. The spring mounted rim saved it, believe it or not, and the backboard is bulletproof. If you can stomach half of what I'm saying, go for it. If any of this didn't resonate with you, choose another. Well now that it’s up it’s pretty awesome. That being said the poles do not fit together very well as most people have come to find out. After I obliterated two boards trying to pound the top and middle together, I was about ready to throw it in the garbage. Enter my wife, comes out reading reviews and how one guy used his truck and I was like that a good idea I can use my old lawn mower to push them together using our porch foundation. Wife wasn’t thrilled with that idea. After stepping back thinking about the situation took a couple deep breaths, it dawned on me. Why don’t I crimp the side that are supposed to fit into the other piece. So I took an old screw driver I had laying around laid the handle flat on the flat sides of the pole pieces down to just past the holes and smacked it with a hammer a couple times on each side. The next piece slid in almost to easy at that point. So I hope this helps for anyone else getting frustrated that this thing doesn’t fit together!

The items included to put this thing together were all over the place! We had to search the bags to find what went where. They were not lettered correctly. The 3 poles didn’t fit as intended, we had to pick up the darn things %26 slam them against a board to even get them to budge as well as add WD40 so they could slide in! My dad had to use a drill to so that the screw could fit! The manufacturer dropped the ball on this one. For all our trouble, we should have got this at half price!

The base came with a hole in it, so the water drained out. The hoop fell over and broke the rim off. I used it for a few days and it was great up until then. I had planned to put in sand, but didn't get to Home Depot in time. Backboard didn't crack so hoping to get a replacement hoop.

Poles did not fit together. Instructions were horendous. Customer Service was totally uncooperative and did nothing to help. They sent replacement parts and they were incorrect. If I sent you a copy of the customer service email even you would be angry

The assembly is way too hard the square tubing is hard to assemble together also the handle to raise the goal is too long to rotate not worth the time and effort just buy the one that's in the store better price and less hassle

Deserve a ZERO. Item arrived broken. Would not replace OR reorder until item was returned. Had to chase them for answers on how to resolve. Once returned, product was out of stock, with no ETA. Now 3 weeks into this process with no end in sight, and all the while, holding my payment. Given this, had to cancel the order. Then Walmart would not refund my money without holding my payment for 10 DAYS! Are you kidding me?! This was supposed to be convenient - instead it was a month-long nightmare. Do yourself a favor and SHOP ELSEWHERE. Don't get abused by Walmart like I did, just go to Amazon, they at least know how to handle a return process.

The support frame underneath the goal could not support the weight of the backboard and broke under the weight and winds of an afternoon thunderstorm. The base held it from toppling forward, but the poor support broke going backwards. The goal itself if a good quality but the weight is too much for the support structure.

Assembling the post (step 1 and 2) was not possible. It's supposed to be difficult to pound together, but if a 6'1" 285%23 30 something can't do it, there is problem with the product. I turned 4 boards into splinters banging it together, even started to bend the steel. Called spalding and they said try a rubber mallet and hung up on me. There are videos online of people getting them put together, but I suspect those were pre-Walmart enshitification models.

I would rate this a zero if possible. The base for the hoop is made of such a cheap plastic it cannot support the weight of the hoop, so it leans to the point that i am afraid it will eventually fall over, especially on a hot day. Do not waste your money.
