We just assembled our hoop system and are very happy with it. I had two friends (who are handy) help me and, together, we assembled the system in about 2.5-3 hours. The directions were clear, although it would have been easier to read them if there were separate booklets for each language. The tip video on YouTube was really helpful to see some of the finer points of key assembly elements. We had all the parts we needed, but I wish that the bags of assembly parts had been more clearly labeled with the contents inside to save us a few minutes of cross-checking. That said, use of the the measuring tape and part reference page was enough for us. As soon as the hoop was up, my kiddo was out shooting baskets. We haven't yet put the water in the base and are relying on sand until the freeze passes. Even so, the hoop is stable and the backboard performs well. IMO, this system is a great value. Make sure you factor costs for assembly help or friend favors into your budget when you consider the overall purchase. This project definitely requires at least two people for assembly.
We've only been using this for 3 days, but so far so good. Solid hoop with minimal movement from shots. Assembly very straightforward! It took me about 5 hours, but that with a 4 and 6 year old assisting :). Saw horse is key to assembly. Pretty easy to move with two adults, just remember to lower hoop to 7.5'. Hoop can be dialed in to any height which especially beneficial if you're placing on a sidewalk so you can factor in curb height of ~ 4".
I bought this hoop for my sons (ages 6 and 10) to replace a 13 year old system that had seen better days. The upgrade in quality was immediately noticed after the system installation was complete. The backboard response is incredible, and prepares the children well for gym play now that they are both involved in team sports. Another great improvement is the height adjustment system. Once set up, the goal can be easily raised and lowered to accommodate the age difference between my children. No more using a broom stick to adjust the goal height. :-) Finally, I hired a professional installation service to assemble the goal, which took the installer just under 2 hours to complete by himself. I have seen other reviews that complained about the installation instructions, but my installer, although experienced, had no complaints. In his words, it was one of the better systems that he has seen.
Got this to replace an in-ground 60" after a move. Somewhat leary about a portable coming from that, but after researching I really liked the hybrid options for moving more easily and not having to drain water or sand every time. That in itself is a great feature. I can move 4-5 bags of sand in a couple minutes and re-adjust the hoop. It's not light which is good, but it is very manageable. I was able to roll it through grass without too much trouble, but this was before putting water in the base. The wheels roll well enough, but are very short so a smooth surface is obviously the best for moving. The construction itself was not overly difficult, I did it mostly alone only asking help to stand it up. Being very cautious to read the instructions several times and inventorying, assembly took about 3-4 hrs. Tip: you really want to make sure to align the poles well and put the top 2 pieces together before the bottom. Playability-wise it's very solid. Some vibration on side, off angle shots and louder thuds with the back board than tempered glass, but not bad. I think it was a very good purchase and recommend this especially at 60" which you don't find often for portables. Shipping took 7 days, but hassle to schedule the freight. Just a note the backboard was cracked with a 5" hole upon delivery, but was able to call same day and had a new backboard in 4 days. Nice service!
I bought this 2 weeks, excellent hoops in the backyard, spent 4-5 hours to install it. Love the product especially during the self quarantined period, stay healthy
I read and researched these hoops for sometime before buying this one. This goal is sturdy! Looks sharp! I read reviews on assembly tips and watched videos online as well, so the assembly wasn't too too bad. (There are just a few steps that were a bit of a challenge.) The goal is one of the best portable goals I have ever seen or shot on. This was a great purchase.
After years of wearing down my old hoop, I finally made the decision to make the change. The Ultimate Hybrid is the closest thing to a nice park hoop or indoor hoop I have ever had, especially since I went with the glass backboard model. The base is very sturdy with the rope and water+sand. My suggestions for buyers: take your time on the directions. Read them and visualize them multiple times before doing each step/moving to the next one. This sounds obvious, but you'll thank me later. You will need someone else to help on a few steps, but one person can handle the majority of the assembly. My suggestions for Spalding: possibly number every piece with a sticker so the assembler doesn't need to constantly flip back and forth between the identifier page and their current step. Have holes drilled into glass backboards before someone purchases this hoop. Clarify how many bags of sand to put into the base (the box I got said five, but the website says four)(four was the most that I could fit in mine.) Overall, I am very happy with this hoop so far!
We bought this goal for our son's 20th birthday. It's great for the cousins and uncles to play competitively ;) It was easy for them to put it together. Shipping was fast! Ordered on Sunday received it on Friday! Spalding is a great product!
The basketball goal took a couple of hours to put together. There were a few steps in the instructions that we wish would have been a little bit clearer. The backboard was pretty scratched up when we took it out of the box - wish it wasn't since we paid good money for it!! Other than that, we are happy with our purchase. Overall it is a great goal and easy to adjust the height.
The top pole isn't staying down on the bottom pole so the top part of the court fell a couple times I don't like the assembly set up ... the court is very nice but I can't enjoy it because it's keeps sliding up and off the bottom smh
